Well, I bought my 3" magnaflow catback (that is the LT1 93-97 V8 catback, yes I have a v6) for $320, and a magnaflow 3" cat for about $35, and installation for both (plus an oxygen sensor bung and an extension pipe [replacement cat shorter than stock] was around 200 or something. My guess is that they're just going to get you a magnaflow muffler and install it, it is not worth it to just get a muffler, get a whole catback.

I got my CORSA off Ebay brand new from RKSport (They discontinued them in their inventory) for 400 bucks and put them on myself. I had to cut the old one off in two places because I only had floor jacks but it came off with relative ease. The CORSA went on with a little pain but it was just fitting the pieces together, you can handle it if you have any knowledge. Took me 2 hours total. But I had to go back after a few hundred miles after it broke in to retorque the clamps and straighten it out. I LOVE the sound though, it's quiet at idle, menacing if you stand next to it, but when I open it up she roars. It's not annoyingly loud either, just loud enough to get everyone's attention and scare away pedestrians :)
