Hi I think I am having a problem with my transmission. When I drive it back fires and it acts like it doesnt want to go anywhere. I took it to a mechanic and they said that I would eventully need a new transmission which would cost about $1800.00 and I need the transmisssion lever positioned. However when ever my friend drives it he said that nothing is wrong with it and its just how ford made the car. Would should I do.

The Position Sensor on the trans may have come loose, If so it may require a slight adjustment when it's re-tightened.

Another likely consideration is the bracket on the bottom of the shifter control tube, it comes loose too. I believe it's held in place with Torx bolts, but in any case, lying on the drivers side floor, looking up at the mess under the dash, and at the end of the steering column, have a partner go through the motions of shifting and you'll see the end bracket wobble all over the place, if it's loose.
