i have a 2001 grand am gt and it's has been okay for a good 4 years of driving. howver i was driving one day and noticed that the car jerks everytime it switches gears. It also seems like it changes gears at a higher RPM. is it a tranmission problem? any advice would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. It sounds like you have a bad MAF sensor. I would reccomend replacing you MAF unit - it should run you anywhere from 30 to 60$.

not necessarily. I think it sounds more like a bad MAF. When your MAF goes bad (or too dirty) and gets confused, it thinks that the air coming in is -40 degrees celsius - so it adjusts the shift line pressure and RPM's accordingly.
