i'm putting dual exhaust on my '88 camaro v6. I won't something with a little bit of sound, but not too loud. I won't to hear it while it's idling.
Any suggestions.

a dual exhaust on a third gen is a pain in the ass to route, and wont really give you any added benifit, even for a V8 car. For your six banger a true dual system is major overkill, hell, i wouldnt even put a 3in system on it unless you are pushing a supercharger or turbo. For a naturaly asperated V6 you will be breathing just fine through the factory sized 2.5in system. however you can free up the corks in the system. a set of headers would be good, i would keep the primary tube size at 1.5 inches or less to focus on low end torque. plug in a high flow catalytic converter, and a high flow catback system. I suggest magnaflow for a sixer, the flowmasters i have heard are tinny, and less than impressive on six cylender engines.

I will assume by duel you mean dual output. Magnaflow could be a little loud for your taste, try Dynomax or Hooker.
89, stock (at least on 4th gens) is a very narrow 2.25", and you know how the rappy stock non-mandrel bends are... some points are 2" or less. Aftermarket v6 kits are 2.5"
You have a 2.8l right?? if you can find a catback designed for that then you should be good. 2.5" that is, that should be fine for it.
For the record the 3.8s loooove to breathe, and a 3" isnt really much overkill on 95 1/2 +
