Durango A/C Question

2000 Durango, front and rear air:
I replaced the front evaporator recently to resolve a freon leak. Everything went back together without a problem, and the A/C works, just not well enough. Odd thing is that on some trips, everything works fine. Others, not quite.
After evacuating the system for 45 minutes, I refilled with 2lbs, as indicated by the under-hood tag. Pressures are 40-150, low and high side respectively. Electric condensor fan runs.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Mine is a 1999 and has always been marginal...particularly in the Phoenix heat. I just changed my blower motor, which was a mechanical nightmare. May be different for you as I understand the 2000 models may be put together differently. It has been well worth the effort as the new blower motor has transformed AC from so-so to a colder and stronger AC. It's actually better than when I bought it at 12,000 miles. I got the blower motor from Carquest for $49. The dealership motors are at least $120 and probably the same marginal model currently installed. I also tried to charge the coolant, but I can't tell if it took any at all as the bottle feels about the same. It's only been 4 days, but it's been a much more tolerable 4 days with temps at or above 110 degrees.

The nightmare is the same. I want to avoid pulling the dash back and getting the heater box out again at almost any cost.
A friend has a Dakota pickup, a few years older than my Durango, but the A/C is strong. My Suburban can cool the interior to refrigeration-like temperatures, so I'm not going to be happy until ice forms in the Dodge.
When I come up with something, I'll post it.
