Check Engine / ETS Light..

these 2 lights come on at the same time about once every 3 weeks and stay on for about a day
it always happens on the highway, i will be driving at about 55-60 MPH and theres a single THUMP sound and then the light comes on, its a pretty light sound, is that just the computer going off or what, ive had the car about 4 months and its been coming on ever since i got it
any hints?
