Parts for Nearly Nothing!
Hey everyone,
I bought myself an 85 Caprice Estate wagon for parts (I took the tranny, A/C system, and tires). I don't really need anything else off of it, so If anybody needs anything from it, just ask and give me a price and shipping money (unless you're picking it up), and I'll take it off of the car for yah. No part is to big or too small (not shipping the whole car :grinno: ), but I'll have to check to make sure the part's not already broken, or rusted out. I've listed below what isn't in salvagable condition. I'll have the car for the rest of the month, then its going to the grave yard. Let me know, they're crushin' these cars and I really dont want any of it to go to waste.
I live in the outskirts of Rochester NY. If anybody wants anything, just contact me through email: [email protected], or leave a post on this thread. I'll be gone the 21st and 22nd, but will be back the following day. Don't hesitate to ask.
Damaged parts:
-Steering column
-Dash pad is ok, but cracked
-Any Body Parts except the hood (which is good)
-Stereo
-Windshield washer fluid pump
-Exhaust system
-Rear Bumper
-Guages
Theres probably more, I just haven't noticed it yet.

The stereo is the silver colored one with the equalizer and tape player, but it only works sometimes, and the screen is completely shot. As for the door trim, look at the picture below and tell me if its what you need.

Note: I will be away thursday July 21, and friday July 22, and will not have access to a computer, so I will not be able to reply to anyone's posts or emails until I get back friday night.
** I will also be keeping the wagon for an extra week after this month if anyone will happen to need/want something from it.

How are the front door pull straps? Mine are missing some of the hardware, I need the big sheetmetal screws and the rectangular inserts that cover the screws.
You can email me directly.

Since you possibly have the steering column loose, how does the cruise control lever come out of it? Also where does the wire running from it wind up? I have to replace mine probably over the weekend.
Thanks, Bob

the wires run straight down the column, one of the plugs right under dash at column is the wires fro the cruise switch, its two or three small wires, not too hard to pull up through column after you remove the lower cover panel undeer column at bottom of dash shell fraem where column mounts to car(not at firewall) you just gotta take your time and fish them through, they run outside of the inner part of column and just inside the outer shell tube of it- in between those just like the turn signal switch wires do too,
youll see,
just start chucking screws and get the colored filler cover panel off under dash there,
if i had a didigcam i could show you on this 80 something tilt auto cruise column i have laying around for parts thats got the cruise switch(and stem/shaft) hanging out of it, all ytou have to do is remove steering wheel, and lockplate and thats it, one screw holds stem to the turn sig switch assembly, philliops head not real big screw, threads right into turn sig switch assembly plastic(yellowish white colored stuff)
BTW thats a nice looking wagon by the pic
why did you say youre parting it ? it looks cleaner than my 88 even
wish i could find a woodgrain wagon, or a wagon at all, they all long gone here, demo derbies :/
thanks

Thanks for the info Randy, I'll have to stare at it for a while but what you offered should help me. Hopefully the part gets here today or tomorrow.

oh and i almost forgot
tie kit string or similar to end of wires at bottom of column beofre pulling harness up the column then tie rpelacment to the string and fish it down with the string
be alot easier, or should be
like electricians to with fishtapes
GM probably did soemthing just liek this anyways when they assembled their columns
good luck

Yeah, if you wouldn't mind scanning a repair manual page or 2 that would be great. I have a Chiltons and Haynes here, both of which should be hanging from a hook in an outhouse for all the great information they offer.
I was considering cutting the old wire off by the column and using that to pull the new wire through. I'm going to take pictures of this as I go.

I'm back guys. As for the woodgrain on the door straps, the car has the other style strap (See picture). As for the mirrors, The junk yard was asking $20 each for them (Got a set for my car before I bought the wagon :D), so what do you say to $20 for the both of them? I'll take em off, clean em, and lube up the mechanisms in them. I found shipping to be the cheapest through US Mail at $6.85 If you want, email me at [email protected]

Would the gearing of the rear end be any different on the 85 wagon than that of my 84 sedan?

Sure, shipping shouldn't be any more than $5.00. How much is it worth to you? Email me... [email protected]

i could pay by check i don't got any credit cards

I'd prefer payment through a money order, or if consealed well enough cash would work too. $10 sounds good, $20 is probably what a junk yard would charge, but I think thats a little excessive. Let me know, I took it off the car, its in great shape.

alright let me get a money order put together for you then and it will be monday when i can do it all. so $15.00 all together right?
