OK I have a 86 and it's a SR5 but what suspension kit should I get for drifting? My 240 has no upgraded suspension and it still drifts. But the 86 is older. Should I buy a GTS rear suspension or buy aftermarket parts?

If you want to make it a drift car an only for fun an drift, take out the interior an do all suspension an maybe exhaust then you will have tons of fun.

Well, what kind of shape is the SR5 in? For one thing, you'll need more than the stock 74hp to drift, unless you plan on doing it in the rain.

You can probably use the stock suspension for now, just to learn car control.

My friend had an SR5 hatch and got a 4AG to swap into it. I found him a GT-S coupe(what he really wanted) without an engine, so now he's going to sell the SR5 and put the engine into the GT-S. Sweet deal.

The car is good. Like the out side looks good but the driver side fender is jacked up. It looks nice but you can still tell that it's an old car. It's being sand down and primored. Engine is probably perfect, saves me gas. I spent 5 bucks and I drove around 6 hours for like 4 days and I still have gas. I thought about selling it because of my mom, she says it's a waste of money. But I might keep or not depends on how fast I can hook it up.

And th 4age engine is good but I rather save money for the 20valve.

buying parts for any 2-door corolla between 85-87 is like owning a 2002+ subie. all the parts are interchangeable. thers no difference suspension wise as far as the sr5 and GTS as they arent different models, just trim levels.

for the suspension, i'd learn on the stock suspension because the aftermarket one's going to react faster to what you do, if you already drift this might not be a problem for you but if you're begining you should learn then change it out.

For the egnine, you could swap a 20 valve in and i read that you can use one of the other tranny's for it even though it's a front wheel drive engine on a rear wheel drive car. you'll have to fabricate motor mounts because it's supposed to be transversally mounted so you'll have to mount it the other way.

for more power i'd supercharger or turbocharge it, the new engine will get you alot more power but it's still pretty low. check out this site: http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Garage/8422/4age.htm it's got tonnes of info on the 4age engines and the corolla.

Just keep the current car you have right now and just practice with it. I started to practice drifting with my S2000 and now I am still learning with my 350z. >.< I shoulda bought a really cheap car to start learning but o well. You already have a good car that you could learn from. After you learn a little then go buy yourself the GTS or maybe another car. =) O and if you are a beginner drifter a little advice.

Rear ( Used cheap ass tires )
Front ( good tires not too good but good tires )

Try getting your rear tires from a recycler or someplace like that. its cheaper and saves you a lot of money and its easier to lose traction to the rear. =) you can get the feel for it easier. Hope it helped.

few difference between sr5 and gts:
-thinner rear swaybars
-slightly softer spring rates (?)
-no lsd (well not all gts have lsd)

just have a feel for the car for now. or use the 240 becasue its easier to practice there.

Got myself new tires in the front and now it's kinda hard to slide because the front gets so much grip. What should I do?

oh lol, in that case, it depends on the course, the car, the car's setup, and the driver. try out a course, see what feels most comfortable and what gives you the best results.

Well my courses are parking lots with no parking bumps. And this road behind my house. My bros and I put up cones and practice every drift possible. I wanna try the faint drift but it seems out of my league right now. It seems easy when you see someone perform it but when you get into the driver seat it all changes. So right now I'm just tryin to get advise from my fellow AFfers.

Easiest to Hardest.

Power Over - Hideous.
Manji - Its easy and looks cool.
Clutch Kick / E-Brake - Quick Transition = cool No speed loss = cool.
Feint. - most of the time its combined with a clutch kick, on soft cars it looks like trash.
Braking - Slow and Semi Hard. you won't ever really do it since it doesnt transition quick.

Its harder to drift since your initiating harder with those not ass front tires.
