Has anyone ever seen a 2.7 hit 200,000 miles without needing a new motor?

I haven't seen 200,000 yet, but the other day I serviced a 99 with 165,000 on it and it was the original motor.

So you serviced it because it was running like crap?at that mileage?

I did a lube/oil filter, belts, & PCV valve. The motor was running fine, a slight oil leak around the oil pan, but nothing major was wrong with the motor.

lol mine has 106.000 miles and i put around 30.000 miles each year.
Everyday seems like a russian roulette with this engine or like Forest gump said,,This car is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you have under the hood" lol.

Russian roulette because of your experience or because of horror stories?
I kinda get the feeling that the engine may not be as bad as people think. It's kinda like anything else, you don't hear stories of normality. People only get vocal when there is a problem.

Jarrett Fan,

you couldn't be any more correct. If this was such a major issue with this car, why hasn't it been on major news networks about safety concerns or recalling the entire car? Personally, I started working for my Dodge dealership in January '03, didn't hear much about Intrepid horror stories until last year when I bought my car (maybe I just didn't pay much attention two years ago). I know many people have suffered engine trouble and I feel for them, but I have not seen a 2.7 in either an Intrepid/Concorde or Stratus/Sebring other than obvious neglect. Wish I had pictures of the 2.7 that went at 88,000 miles b/c the guy never maintained the car, the motor seized and broke the timing chain in the process.

I sold my car with 387.000 km on it without changing the engine.. it was the 2.7L 2000 intrepid SE. My friend who bought the car is very satisfied of my intrepid.. I do a lot of mileage but in no time... I miss the intrepid a lot tough

There s a guy on dodgeintrepid.net with a 99 or 2000 Intrepid 2.7 with over 200.000 miles on it with original engine and he claims even with original light bulbs on it ( stop lights, blinkers etc)

how do you keep it that long?? Everything its written in the service manual, I did it.. changed the oil every 4500 km, rotate tires every 10,000 km, change trans oil + filter every 40,000 km, oil brake and powersteering fluid every 60,000km, I was never rough on my car never... on highway, i drive 110-120 km/h but I give time for the car to reach that speed I don't hit the gas, slowly but surely ;)

I don't know about you, but when I used to work for a Chrysler dealer (I quit b/c I was making more $$$ working for myself) the only time I saw a 2.7 engine fail was b/c the idiot owner went 10,000 miles before his last oil change. I don't know about the area where you are from, I heard of 2.7 engine failures but haven't seen them personally at my dealer or at any other dealer around the Orlando, FL area.
