Ok i live in delaware where they just made these new emmision laws about the check engine light and yes im one out of many that cant seem to past. I've had a number of mechanics look and also fix parts that i thought would be the problem and no one will diagnose the problemwith out giving me the run around.
Now just to start to give you guys alittle on what has been done to the car i bought the car when it only had 30000 miles on the car found out at 70000 mile that i had the old intake on my car when it cracked on i95 payed 1000 dollars to get that fixed my heating core and radiator went with the intake no engine damage just got all four oxygen sensors replaced and got my catalyst looked at to see if this was a problem, it wasnt.
So the problem finally is that my car when i start it. It acts as if its trying to cut off then regains itself and is breathing fine until you try to take off and its studdering to go and picks up after your over 10 to 15 mph then at 60 to 80 mph you can feel the car jerking itself until i let go off the gas. This was after it came out the shop when the catalyst converter was checked only time my car did this was when you just try to pull off and the engine is cold. never had pcv valve or tune up just oil changes and things thats mention earlier. please help me to find out why and what can make this check engine light go off. help asap

Get yourself an OBDII Code reader from any autoparts source. It'll set you back anywhere from $35 to $100 for the tool but you'll never regret having one.

This reader, when connected will display the Trouble Codes (http://www24.brinkster.com/sdhartney/linc/OBD-II_Generic_Scanner_Codes.html) making the Check Engine light come on.

The trouble codes are telling you what's wrong with the car.

I bought the Equus 3100 (http://www.iequus.com/item.asp?cid=7&pid=3100) for $89, but they also make a 3030 Model (http://www.iequus.com/item.asp?cid=7&pid=3030) for around $70 that works perfectly too.

Actron Diagnostic Tools (http://www.actron.com/product_category.php?id=249) also comes highly recommended with very competitive prices. One enhancement Actron offers is displaying the text describing the trouble, along with the code, which omits the NEED to refer to a index or book to look-up the code description.

or take it to the local autozone store and they will read the codes for free

Ok check this one out got my check engine light read to see what codes were there and the four codes that came up is (2X) p0171 and (2x)p0174, bank 1 and 2 system running to lean. Now listen to this i got all four o2 sensors put on last week. So what would make the computer tell you something thats not the problem.

The only thing that i can think of is that at first only bought two that were motorcraft upstream and down then couldnt remember what side the bad one was on so changed all of them which the other two were bosch which they recommend but these parts from bosch dont work good on ford cars, is this a universal part.

Another thing it still hesitation when i pull off and you can hear one of the catalyst conv. going up a hill or reaching 40 mph. Any help is greatly appreciated. thanks

These two codes have been discussed in detail several times, I get them myself from time to time when I run cheap gas and do some severe hill climbing. In my case, I have the code reader in the car and connect it while I'm driving, clear the codes at the top of the hill, and buy better gas next time.

I'm trying to think of all the places I've seen this topic.....

I am so sorry to hear of your troubles in what seems to be a simple matter...these newer cars are so dependent upon codes, technicians, diagnostics, and factory authorized whatevers. It is only the simplicity of older cars with older parts and non-computerized "brains" that makes the Lincoln Towncar the classic that it is. My darling, I do apologize, on behalf of all manufacturers, that you must combat the headaches you do. I wish you godspeed in your TC recovery and cannot help but offer the recommendation that you take it to the most reliable old car fixer in town. You will have to ask around on whom that may be, but I am sure it is an easy fix and an oldtimer won't rape you financially. It's the older shops with the most cars in the lot, there is a reason for that, people will wait for him. Dealers are just that, rapists. Sometimes, the old guy with young men that have dirty hands also know what to do, they just don't get the factory money for it. Ever date a mechanic? Ever watch an elderly person take their car somewhere? They don't go to computerized dealers. And they don't pay a lot of money. Hope this helps.

Well I had to take the car down townson delaware from wilmington which is 50 miles away but this guy knows cars just so far away i haven't got any reply from him but he did say that it sounds like a vaccum leak and what ever you do never ever change all 4 o2 sensors when only one is bad which an a-hole mechanic told me to do. So now my tags are expired my car has been sick for 2 weeks and no luck hopefully it is simple to where it doesnt have to rape my pockets but yeah right its a lincoln. He also said it could be my pvc valve or hose as simple as that

And a question whats the correct amount of mileage per gallon currently im getting 15.4? Which is a pain, im spending 80 a week just to go to work and back home 30 miles door to door.

Take it from me the o2 sensors affect alot of stuff on these cars.

That's great news, you're finally back on the road :)

Was the MAF replaced or did it just need to be cleaned and re-inserted ?
