Hi please help! I have just installed the Sony CDX-F5500 MP3 headunit in my Honda Civic 5 door (1997). I had to install it withought the plugs as
my car wires didnt have the plugs on the wires. Everything is working fine and sounds great except the memory problem!
The settings dont stay! The time, radio stations change back once i switch the engine off 4 about 10/15minz. Im sure all the wires are connected, is there another memory wire or something that i forgot? I had a pioneer system before and that worked perfect with the same wiring.
Please help!
Thanx in advance!

your problem sounds like you have forgotten to connect the constant live supply that comes from the battery. if you connect this you shouldn't have anymore problems

You sure you have the permanent supply (battery wire) and ignition wire connected the right way round, if they are connected the wrong way round the stereo will work fine but ul have no memory.

Hi, Tyanks for everyone for helping me out last time. I now have another problem with the same headunit after 4 years of perfect service. My system started playing up (when playing mp3 cd's it would sometimes keep skippin even on brand new burnt discs, the mp3 sign would dissapear for the half second it skips everytime). THEN, I got fed up and took the system out and in that process some of the wires came loose I think (no plugs on system or car). I forgot how the wiring goes! I don't need to connect the BLUE amp wire from the system to anything do I? Also theres an orange/yellowish wire with a small plus from the car, does anything need to go in there? I have a red wire loose which i connected to its car red wire. But theres also another red wire loose covered in tape (from last wiring). Can't remember how I wired it alst time. Any ideas please? Or a diagram? Honda Civic 1997 5 door.
Cheers!
Cheers!

Hi I tried but no luck, took the system out for a reason and I think a few wires have come loose. Tried all different combos but can't get it to switch on. A couple of the times the system light came on for a second and went off. From the sony system theres 1 red wire and a yellow wire coming out and the ends are taped together and from my car theres a red wire thats conencted to them both. Theres also another red wire loose coming out from the honda car. This wire if it touches with the yellow wire or any metal causes my interior car light to come on. Please help!
Thank you

Can you locate the cars BLUE/WHITE wire ?? it should have constant voltage and would connect only to the stereos solid yellow constant voltage memory wire (take it away from the stereos solid red wire) The stereos solid red wire should be going to the cars YELLOW/RED wire (switched voltage source)
The dome light system and some other functions are controlled by the factory audio system in this generation Civic btw.

Hi,
I have managed to fix the system, the main power wire from the car was very loose and those wires were hidden so I didn't know about them, BUT now I have anotehr problem, my system suddenly won't play MPŁ CD's new ones i burn or even the old ones. Sometimes it sasy error and sometimes it will play a bit or even a full track but skips severely or onto the next track. It seems to play audio cds OK. This is weired! I tried cleaning with a 2 brush cd lens cleaner, worked once. Any idea? Thanks in advance!

The new stereo units are not really service friendly, You may be able to clean the laser cover and clean the rails the assembly moves on (do not lube)

Thanks, but will the automotive CD laser cleaners (dry) work? I actually used the lube/solution one a few times :(

I always used 95% isopropyl to clean the laser (some may not agree)
The rails, I clean with a dry cloth and leave dry.
I switched over to a flash player and use the AUX input lately, all your music in one box.
