New Guy with questions

Hi I own a 2003 eclipse Gs 5 spd. I got the car about 2 months ago and i know very little about it other than what i learned from driving it. I'm starting to mod it and i have a bunch of questions. First off do you guys know anywhere that i can learn about my car like engine specs, power to weight ratio, compression ratio and stuff like that. I wanna know my engine inside and out. Second do you know any good sites for parts. Any parts ranging from intakes to turbos, I basically know e-baymotors, nopi, and the big names like HKS and Greedy’s web sites. Okay this question is gonna make me look like a complete idiot but I have a pair of fog lights I want to put in and I and some of my friends cant seem to find an easily access able hole in firewall. Also there is a wiring harness for the stock foglights is there any way to like splice the wires and use that or do I need to drill into the firewall. Finally I wanted to know can I put a v6 motor into my chassis without modifying it. If not which is better down the line engine rebuild, turbo, or supercharger? Thanks for the advice and help.

You need to search around here and more importantly www.club3g.com before you start modifying your car. Don't even think about swapping the v6 into your GS. You will happier turboing the 4g64 you have now (you would know this had you searched). www.roadraceengineering.com also has parts for your car.

Thanks for all the great advice guys. I'm curious y should i stick with the 4 cyl wouldnt i get more power out of the 6 cyl? Also I'm about to get an exhaust what all do i need other than headers and the exhaust kit, highflow cat? One last question will most of the 2g mods fit on my 3g or is it only a couple? Thanks for the advice guys and im sorry that i havent searched around im new and im really busy right now.

the 4cyl is a better platform to build. the stock internals can handle up to 15psi of boost, whereas the v6 can only handle about 8-10psi.
theres only a few performance parts for the 2G that will fit the 3G.
are you planning on going turbo or supercharged anytime in the near future? if so, which way are you leaning? your answer to this question will decide whether you even need to get a header or not.

Im not planning on doing anything major for about a year or two cause im just about to start college. Latter on though i dont know if I want to turbo or supercharge. My understanging is that turbo will give more power however there is lag and a supercharger is constant power. Also turbos blow out after a certain amount of miles and superchargers are suposed to last for ever correct? I have a friend with a 240sx that he put a SR20 motor in and he had issues with the turbo blowing and he has to get higher octane gas and I was wondering if that was true with a supercharger too. My real question is will either of the two be better for my engine or is it just up to me what i want. Also here is a list of mods that i will be doing soon they are in order, let me know if you for see any major problems or if you think i should do anything different
intake, front strut bar, shor shifter (on the way already)
exhaust full catback & headers
suspension lower 2in via ebiock pro kit and kyb agx adjustable shocks and struts and sway bars
cam gears and aem true power pulleys
I want a really good suspension so any sites or advice you have please let me know and thanks again for the great advice!

yes a turbo can make more horsepower. lag can be taken care of. both turbos and superchargers can last for years and years. it all depends on how its maintained. you have to remember that the bearings in both are cooled by the oil from the engine. if you neglect to change the oil regularly, you can reduce the life of a turbo/supercharger. with any type of forced induction(turbo/super), you will need to run a higher octane fuel. this will reduce the chances of detonation(which is bad).
which is better? neither is really better than the other. however, most 4cyl 3G's are going turbo. most of the v6 are going supercharged. for some reason, there have been problems with a supercharger on a 4cyl. until recently, there were no reliable turbo options for the v6. now that a company has made a turbo kit, more and more v6's are going to turbo.
stay away from the AEM tru-power pulleys. they do NOTHING for the car expect make you lights dim. they give you no power.
for headers, there are only a couple of options....notibly RIPP and RPW. RIPP's are long tube headers and RPW are short tube. RIPP's will run you about $1300 and RPW will go about $500-$600. b/c of the recent events with RIPP's new batch of headers, i would advise you to go with RPW. RIPP claims that you WILL get 25-30whp from their headers without tuning. i have seen a number of dynos that show about a 8-10whp gain. RIPP has flat out lied on a number of occasions to the 3G community.

Also if you get the headers then you pretty much decided in advance that you will be using supercharging as your form of forced induction. If you plan on going turbo in the years to come you should save the 800-1300 bucks since they will be of no use once you get the turbo kit.

or he could get the header now, and sell it if he decides to go turbo

What about a cheaper set of headers like DC sports headers or just a pair of 4 2 1 racing headers? Also are camgears any good with out new cam shafts? And are there any other mods for like under $500 that would either gain a little hp or help my suspension or breaking?

he could do that if he doesn't mine losing a couple hundred or so if he decides to go turbo and sell them.
as for braking and suspension you could do a number of things. you could find a used set of front evo brembos and rotors for around 500 if you look hard enough. kyb's and eibach springs would cost around 500 too.

That sounds good but would the headers gain me any hp and also this is a list of parts i plan on doing in the near future do you know of any thing else i could do for around 500 othere than these. Also would a high flow cat help at all ??

yeah you can go with the DC sports header. it will give you some hp gain and torque gain.
