I looked at those. I don't see where the sensors go tho on some?

The difference between the K&N (I just installed mine tonight - Woohooo!!) and the cheaper Ebay intakes is:
1) the heat shield
2) the tight fit around the throttle body (replaces stock)
3) the K&N filter itself
4) overall looks (not so ghetto)
5) yes, sensor holes and rubber grommets are pre-made, pre-drilled (IAT, MAF, and exhaust re-circ)
6) on my make and model (97) I did have to drill two holes in the frame to install the heat sheild - not too difficult though
I found mine for $150 on Ebay. I recommend spending several days searching Ebay - many of the ones I found were $220 - $315 !! When I saw $150, I jumped on it!!
Negative: 2 of the hose clamps that came with the kit were the wrong size !! I had to re-use the stock ones. No big deal but, for that much money, the right size hose-clamps would've been nice!
Also, don't do it without a performance exhaust that can handle it.
Anyhow, the selling points for me were 1) the relatively cheap Ebay price 2) everything pre-drilled, 3) tight fit at throttle-body 4) the quality of the filter itself 5) a nice, clean, not-so-ghetto look.

Oh yeah ... BTW .... I took my truck out tonite after installing my K&N intake and,
I did notice a difference at mid-to-higher RPM's. Before, I could tell she was "gasping for air' at about 3600 RPMs ... now she's "gulping it down" !!!
I was expecting a louder sound but it wasn't a whole lot louder than before.
... don't have a DYNO to test but, could definitely feel a difference.
looks cool under the hood ...
a little ancy about how the filter oil will affect the MAF ... I'll just do my best to keep the filter oiled according to the manufacturer's specs ...

also, the install instructions that came with the K&N were poor --- I could figure out what to do and figure out the jist of it but, again, for the amount of money I paid, I'd expect better install instructions!!

The ebay intakes are just as good as the K&N for the money.
You will not see 4x the performance for 4x the money.
Some of the good ebay kits are actually nice looking so I don't know where you are getting the ghetto thing from.
Also, with the money you save, you can upgrade your muffler.
But remember guys, ALWAYS upgrade your muffler before doing an intake. The engine has to exhaust what it intakes. If you only free up one of them, they will only be cacelled out by the other restriction.

I have a 99 LS 2Door 4x4..just starting to do a few mods to it..trying to get all the old maitanence neglected by the previous owner taken care of first.
Good lookin out on the exhuast info LT. Any reccomendations for me to look at? I will be doing this before a intake now. Don't need anything loud and proud. Just somthing decent sounding and quality.

Yes, you want a great flowing muffler, get a Ravin Z55.
