95 jetta starting issue

Well other than the problems ive posted about before, this one is the worst, because now i cant start my car.

Driving down the road 18 miles from home when i lost power. got it home (towed ofcourse) and found the ground wire running from the ignition coil to the engine was fried off at the engine.

I went to the local autozone and picked up a ground cable, its a good amount thicker than the original but its all i could find. But the car still wont start. I checked a plug and sure enough, no spark. So im thinking i fried the ignition coil.
Anyone know how i can check this?

To check the coil . . . Hard to explain w/o a picture of one, but here goes. There should be a cap on the side of the coil that you pry off to expose 2 lugs, those would be terminal 1 and terminal 15. Test between those two points and you should see between .5 and .7 ohms. Next find the lug on the round edge of the coil - that should be terminal 4. Test between terminal 4 and 15 you should see between 3,000 and 4,000 (3K-4K) ohms. If your readings on those terminals fall between the specs, then your coil is within tolerance. Next make sure you have 12v at the connector that clicks on to the coil. If so, rule out the coil as possible faulty unit.
