98 Concorde A/C Evaporator

I have to replace the A/C evaporator in my 98 Concorde. What are the thoughts on aftermarket replacements? Are there any major issues with these?

Also, I know it is not an easy replace and a substantial portion of the dash has to be removed. Any comments or suggestions?

Is there anywhere for me to get a detailed instruction?

Any help or comment is appreciated.

It has been my experience that aftermarket items will only work for a short period of time and then go out. It may cost more, but go back to the dealer and get a factory unit. You're tackling a major job alone, you'll to remove the entire dashboard just to get to the evaporator. For detailed instructions, The Haynes manual has pictures and detailed instructions as to what you'll need to do in order to take out the core. Good luck

Thanks. I checked with the local auto parts store and got a replacement unit made by Factory Air. They indicated that they also manufacture the OEM as well. I paid $89 + tax while the dealer part lists for $295. I have already done the swap. It took a couple of nights after work. I was careful not to force or break any of the dash parts. Most were plastic. Probably have about 7-8 hours and plan to get the system sunctioned and recharged. I will have about $250 into the repair myself. I think it generally costs anywhere from $800-$1000. Hopefully the evaporator will last. Thanks again.

I agree with the happy wife part! Did you enjoy pulling out your entire dashboard to replace your evaporator? If you were like me the first time I did it (and I work for a dealership) it took me 17 hours, pain in the a**.
