Hello all Im a newb here. I have recently come across a 1979 6.6 t/a. I am told it runs and drives good, but it has a minor oil leak. It could also use a new paint job and thats about all. I was wondering if it was worth $3000. I also found a 1978 camaro z28 with a few mods for $4000. It also has a minor oil leak. Which one would be a better buy? I am leaning towards the t/a but i m not sure.

the t/a of course. and if the 6.6 turns out to be a 400 pontiac and came originally with the car (numbers matching) than you stole it...
cause 79 was the last year for the 400 Pontiac in those birds, technically leftover engines from 1978, stored to be installed in 79's.

I decided to go wiht the t/a because it was cheaper. Now about this oil leek. Im not sure where its coming from i think its coming from a hose. Not sure though what else should i check to find the source?

start by degreaseing the engine realy good and then while everything is clean you should be able to see fresh oil at the source

What should I look into getting for my car to give it that extra zip?

Assuming we are talking about a 400 Pontiac here are the trouble spots:
If the oil is to be found at the rear of the engine, than it is leaking from the rope seal that seals the crankshaft at the rear, a notorious source of leaks.Engine needs to be disassembled. If the leak is to be up front, it can leak from the oil pan seal (the way the pan is shaped), or from the crank/balancerseal above it.If oil is to be found under the car front left, most likely the steering box is dripping. Hope that helped.
