Got a race setup for the Indy bash

So i was out at the meet last night and a friend of a friend brought his Civic Hatch out, not sure on the year but it's got a GSR engine swapped in. He ran a 14.3 at the Cordova strip. I took him for a ride in the Eclipse and he took me for a ride in his hatch, i know he's been wanting to run me because he keeps asking my friend if my car is fast or not. So i asked him if he was going to the Indy bash August 19-21, and he agreed to race me over there. Should be interesting since i haven't ran it at a 1/4 mile track yet, i'm HOPING i will at least be able to keep up with him, i know i probably can't hit low 14's yet, but it's a race that i'm looking forward to. Why not race him on the street?? Because A) I have a shitty enough driving record as it is, i dont need a street racing ticket on it. B) You cant get timeslips on the street, just estimates.
Here's a link to some pictures he put on honda tech, that's my friends green GSR at the bottom of the post.

NTM the track shows who won, rather than having to argue if its close.
Good luck tho.

Yeah, taking it to the track leaves no excuses as well. I salute you for making plans for a track meet instead of a street race!
Good luck with the race too.

wow that is a very very clean looking EG. judging from all that structural re enforcements, it looks like he auto X's alot.
and also for us roll on racers, the difference in hp will still show even if we lose cause we will have a high trap speed showing how fast we were reeling them in.

How much boost are you running in the Eclipse?

Stock i think, unless my mods up it a bit...still learning about these types of engines and shit so i'm not 100% sure about everything. Next paycheck i'm buying an electronic boost controller and guage, so i'll see what i can safely up the boost to.

Yeah, we dont have A LOT of imports around her, but for those who do have them, they're done right. And we do a lot of autox around here to.

z28josh, you really don't need a boost guage if your planning to be a electronic boost controler. the electronic boost controllers will have a boost guage already built in. just make sure it reads in psi instead of bars or kpa.

Yeah, but you won't be as cool if you don't have a analoge gauge 3" from your face on your A-Pillar reading Boostorrzzz.
Like every other Turbo-fuck out there...
I can say that, cause my boost guage was on my steering column... all in my wayz! :p

Who needs pillar gauges when I have that awesome VAFC? :)
Pillar gauges are for amateurs that don't know how to read and distinguish their own car. They need some sort of device to tell them what does what, and when and where. You my friend are an amateur.

Tat, you are so un-JDM tyte if you cant do the conversion from bar to psi in your head.
um do you have recommendations for a boost controller that doesnt cost a million (and isnt the greddy one)

Who said i wasn't going to get one? I just dont have the funding for everything right now. I dont really need a bunch of guages because i know my cars well enough that i can tell by how it's running and certain sounds what i need to do.

hahah i have an idea. i know that .93 is 13.5 psi and i know 1.00 bar is 14.5 psi. thats all i need to know. if you want a cheap ebc, your out of luck. i spent 330 for mine blitz SBC spec S and yes that one reads in bars. but i also have a autometer boost gauge and i'll tell you, its sooooooooooo in accurate. when the boost controller was reading 7 psi, the guage was reading 9 psi. and guage reading was 15 psi, but true reading from the ebc was 13.5 psi. blah!!

I had planned on getting the HKS EVC EZ boost controller, have you heard anything good or bad about that one?
TatII
07-19-2005, 09:49 AM
my friend has one. its probrably the easiest one to set. i have no complaints about it. its just that it looks kinda cheesy. its just a box with two knobs. my friend got the EZ EVC with the screen. so it looks less cheap. and you can only have two boost settings on that particular controller.
-Josh-
07-19-2005, 10:44 AM
The one i'm getting has the screen, it's like $350 or somethin.
TatII
07-19-2005, 03:27 PM
there is no difference in performance between the one with the screen and one without. if you decide the choose the hks one, then you definitly would need a boost gauge since the standard ez evc is just a box with 2 knobs and on screen. you gotta adjust according to the boost gauge.
-Josh-
07-19-2005, 05:38 PM
I figured up the prices, to get the one with a guage built in would be roughly $738, and to get the one with just the knobs and then get a boost guage seperate would be $663.... Only time and cash flow will tell. All i know is i'm going with HKS cause most of the shit on the car so far is HKS.
