Any tips on how to improve gas mileage

I've got a 91 t-bird and the gas mileage that I get from the car is killing me. On average I'm getting about 13-15 miles to the gallon. I'm not doing anything like jackrabbit starts or racing the car, just normal driving. Any advice on how I can improve my gas mileage, or is this normal for the car?

Which engine? That's low for either the 5.0 or the 3.8. When was the last time the O2 sensors were replaced? Air filter? Full tune-up?

yeah, from what I've heard from people and my brother (who is a mechanic) O2 sensors do a whole lot for your gas milage, funny, I never thought of that before....

The air filter was replaced not too long ago, and the engine is the 3.8. I'll check into replacing the O2 sensors, anyone know what the cost of that would be roughly?

also an air intake kit will help your mileage quite noticibly, depending on which one you buy. I replaced mine and got another 3 or 4 mpg on the freeway.

The best way to improve your mileage is to trade the T-Bird for a Geo Metro. Just kidding. O2 sensors for a 91 Thunderbird with a 3.8 are about $45 each. I think it needs two of them so it would be about $90 for the O2 sensors.

I agree--worn out O2 sensors may hurt your mileage. Also, replacing the old ignition module on my '91 302 seemed to make quite a difference. It was about $60. You may want to make sure the timing is set right, and a good alignment and proper tire inflation can help a lot. It's also worth checking to see that the coolant's full and the thermostat's working right. The coolant temperature sensor affects the mixture.

Before you replace the O2 sensors you should check the spark plugs and maybe replace those. I have a 1991 5.0 and I was getting really low mileage, but after I replaced the spark plugs, the car had more power and it gave me better gas mileage.

You could always walK! A complete tune up always helps! Fuel injector cleaner helps sometimes. Keep your oil changed like your supposed to.
