camshaft bearing installation

Ok I have a chevy 350 that i am needing new cam bearings in. I was wandering if any one had any alternatives on installing them to buying an installer. Personally I think they are way to expensive for so rare a job to justify my buying one and I don't want to pay someone to install them, I'd rather do it my self rather than let anyone touch my car. So you know if a block of wood and a mallot ever worked for any one or something else let me know. :)
Thanks

You may be able to rent/borrow an installer tool.
Do NOT hammer them in with a piece of wood.

Bearings are soft and easily distorted. Installer tools evenly spread the load of pressing them in around the bearing. A piece of wood likely will not distribute the load evenly, leading to a warped bearing and subsequently a scored camshaft journal.
Realistically, what is the cost of your engine, camshaft and your labor to work on your engine?

Do not screw up all that work, parts and $$$ by cheaping out on one tool.
