yes a chip will help but the best way is to burn your own. thirdgen.org has info about burning your own prom(chip) ..this is what i have been told

Or, you can check out www.TBIchips.com they can burn you something for around $125
They do TBI, TPI, and LT1 chips.....

Also, check out www.eBaymotors.com there is a fella on there that sells bunches of Hypertech chips, I picked one up for my '87 5.7 IROC for around $60 and he even included a 160 degree thermostat.

Is your car mostly stock? If so I'd just go with a hypertech "Thermomaster chip" and a 160 degree stat... It will tweak your air-fuel mixture and turn your electric fan on at lower temps...

the only problem with buying a chip is its only good for what you have on your car when you get the chip burned, once you add something elso to your car youll need a new chip to get the right performance...so just invest in your own chip burning stuff and youll be set...hell you can even charge your friends to do thiers then that will pay for the cost of it.

any mail order chip will provide improoved performance, but will not give you all the engine has to offer. if you are going to go with a new PROM chip, then you might as well do it right and actually have one programmed in your car to the specific mods you have and tuned for optimum performance. i looked at ordering premade chips a while ago, but have sence started looking into burning my own.
