My girlfriend's '96 Cherokee (V-6) quit on her while driving and would not start. She had it towed to a nearby garage and they cannot figure it out. The tried swapping out the computer after determining all the obvious wasn't the problem such as the ignition, alternator, etc. The computer swap did no good. The shop is stumped....any ideas out there??

Ed,
My wife's 92 had a similar problem that turned out to be the Crankshaft Position Sensor. It is mounted on the bell housing. You can see the message thread here:

Good Luck & let us know what you find.

Have you check the cap and rotor. I think you mean l-6 instead of v/6. Also check the tip of the rotor for looseness and movement. Did you check the wiring at crankshaft sensor. Try wiggling it while someone cranks engine over. Use wood hammer handle to wiggle wires. Dale [email protected] :headshake

Did you check that wires are completely down on cap. Do you have spark at the coil. If so you may have a bad camshaft position sensor inside cap. Check the terminals and button inside the cap for wear. DALE
