i'm looking at an 89 town car to buy. our mechanic said to watch out for the suspension. they said the rear shocks alone can cost $2000 and that they can go any time althought he car has low mileage (62k). any idea how accurate this is? is suspension a huge prblem with this car? it seems great otherwise.

I am going through that suspension problem. The air bags are 200.00 than compressor for 160. so not 2000.00 and yes they can go anythime.

$200 isn't a bad deal for the bags. The compressor is also a good deal at $160.

The trick here is to not let your compressor keep running when you blow a bag. That'll kill it in no time. Shut the system off, and replace the bags. If you can't do the job, don't drive the car until you can.

As for being afraid to buy a car with air bags, that's just nuts. Buy the car, enjoy it. When a bag blows, replace them both and move on.

As for $2000 :nono: That's if you don't want to do the job yourself. You can have both bags replaced in less than 1/2 day if you've never done it before.
