99 GPGT vs. 2000 Eclipse GT (V6)

Who would win? My ex's new boyfriend likes to talk crap bout my car n brag about his, so I'm curious as to if i have a chance. BTW, his car has mods but they're all cosmetic, so performance-wise he's stock, n my GP is bone stock.

O, and he has a manual trans, i know that won't help my chances if i have any chance.

why the hell is her boyfriend driving an eclipse? that's such a girls car... obviously she's wearing the pants in the relationship lol jk.. it might be close but i think you can take em..mainly a driver's race...if he misses a shift you got em. you'll def. take him off the line but he might catch up. Put a cheap FWI and get ur U-bend delete and maybe a 180 stat and you'll eat em up. All that won't cost you much around 100-150 bucks depending.

ya, i agree bout the eclipse, it is girly. she prob. is wearin the pants in the relationship 2, lol. I could find the 180 thermostat n i know bout the U-bend delete, but where could i get a cheap FWI, and would i have to move the PCM when i put the FWI in? Also, i was thinkin but goin with a 160 thermostat, wut do u think.

Anyone else's input on the race would be welcomed.

I just used some plastic ties for the pcm and strapped it down to the bottle/metal there.
160-stat might have trouble starting in the winter if you live in cold climate ive read. U-bend should be able to be done at any competant exhaust shop.. many others have asked you can search for some pricing on that too

a 160 degree thermo is too cold for an almost stock car..hell my car still has the stock thermo and im in the 13's :evillol:

are you kidding, a 3.0 eclipse gt pushes out 200 hp stock, and its a hell of alot lighter then our grand prixs, which push out the same hp...not to mention a manual tranny unless he sucks at driving you have no chance in hell...spare yourself the embarassment

i have a 99 gt with a few mods on it, and my brother has a 02 eclipse gt with a few mods also...he tries to bust my nuts until i race him, but i'm not an idiot....

With the extra trunk space we have vs. the eclipse, you could fit a rocket motor or something in there. That will definitely smoke him :iceslolan .

It's amazing though how many cars try to race me since I bought my car. I think it's the dark blue coupe that makes my stock GT look more agressive than it is.

I had one kid in a Blazer or Jeep think it was cool to pass me on the shoulder while the other kid in the left land was flooring it. I think school got out that day too because I almost t-boned someone when they cut me off...yikes! Good thing my brakes were working well :)

I like making them look like an idiot when they just take off and I start accelerating like normal.

So...if he doesn't spin his tires and does all the normal race prep it will be close don't you think? i agree manual and lighter does give it an advantage but not that huge..

remember we push out 225 tq as compared to 200/205 for the eclipse.

good point, but what were looking at here is basically 3400 lb auto v. 3000 lb standard....theres no way you could take him in the low end, you would probably pull on high end but if he knows how to drive ill say he takes you 1/2 of a car.....find a few mods to bolt on and you could take him

maybe ill go race my brother tonight in his eclipse and let you know, i only have an intake for performance, but he has a cai at the least i know... itll make his ego bigger if he wins, which is why i dont race the little prick

I'm lookin at puttin in a FWI and gettin the U-bend delete like Blur said, i dunno what that'll gain me but it doesnt matter, the guy he lost his licence for his up-teenth speeding ticket, so I'm the only one who can drive my car :biggrin:.

Ya, he had his license taken away for a year, and that was a while ago, so he has a few months left. I'm seriously lookin into the FWI, but I live in Illinois and standing water and snow aren't that rare around here, so I'd have to make a splash shield, and I suck at fabricating stuff. If you have a walkthru on how to design a splashguard or at least some ideas, I would really appreciate it. Also, with the climate I live in, would it be better to just wait and buy a CAI or an Aircharger kit?

I could get my hands on sheet metal but it wouldn't be easy. If I can use plastic it would probably be better. I look forward to seeing your drawing and hopefully getting to work on it.

A freind of mine proposed the idea of using a bypass valve instead of a splash shield. Any thoughts on this and how hard it would be to incorporate?

first of all a 99 mustang gt will own you by 3 cars in a gp gt, it will even own a gtp...and a eclipse will own you by 2 cars. a stock grand prix gt is not fast at all, its rather sluggish actually when compared to comparable cars. an eclipse is not a girly car, im sure if you had one you would be bragging about the balls it has

your guna need a hell of alot more then a fwi, an eclipse gt will be head to head with a gtp...dont even bother to upgrade unless you plan on getting a supercharger or spending over a thousand bucks at least to win him in a race

One of the new eclipse gt's might stay w/ a gtp, but the 3rd gen. eclipse GTs have an average 1/4 mile of about 15.7 seconds according to just about every source I've found. You figure with race prep a stock Grand Prix GT should run 16 flat or a lil over if its older, then a FWI and ubend delete should gain me at least a tenth of a second or two, and that puts me about even with him in the quarter mile, maybe a little bit behind but still close. You're bro's eclipse won by 2 carlengths, but that doesnt take into account the difference in quality of your cai's (if there is any) and how well the cars respond to mods. Also, remember, they're only 300-400 lbs lighter than us and with a spoiler and body kit added on, that closes it up even more. If I can get the hp advantage by even a little bit, I think it would be close.

I'd agree that the newer Eclipse GTs will give a GTP a run for its money. The older ones unless modded are pushovers.

But there is a major problem with the new 4th gen. Eclipse GT. It's a death trap. Mitsubishi has taken the horsepower up to where the torque steer/oversteer is very dangerous. The other problem is its got the cheapest sheet metal I've ever seen. Don't ever get into an accident with one. Just my 2 cents. :2cents:

Ya, thats what I thought. Maybe your brother has a fast factory car or you have a slow factory car, or both. Could also have something to do with your tires, since I remember you saying you didn't launch because you're tires weren't very good. According to the numbers, it would seem it would be halfway competative, but the numbers aren't always the ultimate authority.
