I have a 93 5.7L extended cab. a couple months ago i saw that i had begun to burn a whole through the muffler, and now it is evident that i need to replace it. rather than getting a factory replacement im thinking of getting something with a little better flow to hopefully improve gas-mileage alittle. my question is which mufflers do you all suggest, and where can i get a quality muffler thats not rediculously expensive?

I put two 40 series where the 2 into 1 stock one was and ran them out the back. It made a big change in mileage. flow master does have a 2 into 1 also. It gave it a nice proformance sound also. look in local free car and add papers for install deals also

I personally like 40 series flowmasters, I have gibson headers flowing down to 2 1/2" pipe to the flowmasters and out! the sound quality is great deep throaty rumble at idle and just roars was you press the pedal on the right and i have noticed a little better milage and definetly have some performance gains!

I have 40 series flow...it is kinda loud tho, but with it and a high flow cat, abd a K&N Drop in, I pulled 20mpg going through mountains.... (I was passing trying to make it to a wedding on time too!)

If you want quite tho, I would go with something else, Magaflow is quiter, with the same increase in flow.

I agree - Flowmaster 40 Series. Go with Delta Flows for less noise in the cab.

I have an 1988 C/K w/202K and i have 1 big cat conv. then it is straight pipes. when i start the truck heads turn like whats that. it sounds better than any flowmaster. the guy said i didn t need an glass pack or muffler so i tried it. the truck growls on the highway, as far as mpg never checked to see if it got better or not.

Everybody talks about sound or gas mileage, but which headers and mufflers has best performance? No one can really beleive what the manufacturer says because they tweek the numbers or what the magazines say because they are usaully paid off. I really don't care what anything sounds like as long as it has the best performance.

Well the advise I would offer would be to call up or go down and talk to a local muffler shop and try a small one not any big chains cause they're just going to try to sell you anything they can. Those guys or gals should be able to give you more info on accual performance gains. But if you read the last post I made in this thread and try the header, muffler setup I have you won't be disappointed! good luck and if you have any other questions just ask !
