Oil Burning

I've noticed that Grand Marquis between the years of 92-94 burns a large amount of oil. Knowing this by see numerous GM shoot smoke from its exhaust and having a 92 myself which get extremely low before the 3000 mile mark. [B]Why do they do this is it a defect in the engines design?

Well, for one thing, they are all 11-13 years old and probably average 150,000 miles! I can remember when most cars went to the junkyard at 100k. I can remember when newer cars still needed a quart every 1000-1500 miles The most common culprit is valve stem seals, which were redesigned in 95. they can be replaced on the car, but some special tools made specifically for this engine are required. If your 92 is getting extremely low, I would suggest checking it a little more often and topping it up between oil changes.

I also have a 92. What I have found to cut down on oil burning was a full bottle of Lucas motor oil treatment with every oil change.

A mechanic who buys used marques says they all burn oil after 100,000 miles (think of it as a James Bond car-it leaves a smoke screen and an oil slick), I just add oil as needed, its still cheaper than a new car payment.

I have refill my oil tank every 1500 miles. I am completely empty by 2000 miles. Its a sad thing, but I cant help it.
