My dad is a manager at an HVAC place, and sometimes he has to drive the truck around for deliveries and whatnot. the truck's a 1992 Chevy..has about a 15 ft. trailer?(for the cargo) on it. Anyway...apparently he was in Delaware and accidently locked the keys in the truck. So he took a spare of MY car key ('99 GP) and it UNLOCKED THE TRUCK!!!! Wouldn't start the truck, but still!! just scares me a bit thats all..

that is bizarre, but the chances against that happening are staggering. That's one co-incidence for the ages.

There are only so many different combinations of cutting a key so they use the same cut for many different cars. Doesn't matter old or new, so long as you can get the key in there's a chance the key will work perfectly--a better chance that you can play with it and get it to work especially if the cylinder is worn (which is likely your dads case).

As was said, there are only so many cutting combinations. The odds are very much against this happening but you can, from time to time, find someone who has had this experience.

It's not a GM thing, though. It happened to me many years ago with an old Merc. Marquis that I had. I nearly started a fight with the tow truck driver that I thought was trying to steal my car.

A few higher end cars now use keys that are cut to the car and also have a small coded RF circuit in the key for this reason.

i've had the same thing, my dad has a '00 blazer and my gp key opens all his doors, but wont work in the ignition though.
