man i fuckin hate electronics sometimes. i got a viper 791xv installed on my car probably about 11 months ago. so about two weeks ago the piece of shit stop workin. i can't arm or disarm it. the one time i was able to do it i had to put the car in valet mode so i could open the car with my key. i've come up with every possible damn solution and none of them seem to make sense. i even took the car to where i got the alarm installed and they were like, sorry man, don't know. little putas. i'm gettin pissed. i paid some money for my shit and it should work. one would think that in this day and age they could get electronics to function proprely for a decent amount of time.

Not much choice, rip it out, return it. It does suck that sometimes you buy something that either fails or doesn't work to expectations, but that's why there is usually a return policy.

fuck i don't want to return that shit. knowing the shop they charge me to rip it out, charge me to put a new one in, bunch of shit like that. hopefully it's still under warranty.

Yeah man, me too. I tried to return a DVD player once and the person kept telling me 'sir, you can't return the item like that' and I kept saying 'yeah I can yeah I can' and she's like 'sir please put some pants on'. Man what was her problem?

Bro, Viper's are terrible. I bought one about 2 years ago and about 10 months after I had it installed the remote just died!! What was even better was that the alarm was armed at the time so when I put the key in the door and unlocked it the alarm went off. Went to start the car won't start (ignition kill when alarm is armed). I get a ride from a friend to Circuit City where I bought and had it installed, the jerk off kids tell me I'm basically SOL cuz they don't sell this system anymore and can't even order me a new remote(regardless of the fact that not only did I have a 2 year warranty through Circuit City I also had a lifetime warranty through DEI(makers of Viper systems). So now in order to get my car started I had to unhook the alarm underneith the dash. Now this is the good part. Because the alarm is going off the entire time I'm trying to unhook it (I'm in a semi major parking lot) somebody calls the fucking cops on me!!!! Cops pull up sirens and lights going, jump out of the car guns out screaming at me to get down on the ground and put my hands behind my head. I comply because generally when someone is pointing a gun at me I'll do what they tell me. They cuff me and throw me in their car(all the while I'm trying to explain to them what is going on, they're like "sure kid, yea this is your car that your breaking into.") I'm like then wtf are the keys in the ignition for!!! So basically about after a 1/2 hour of being in cuffs and the cops running me for warrants and whatnot, they finally listen to me and check the name on the registration(and I'll be damned it matches the name on my ID.) They un-cuff me and tell me next time to get it towed. They didn't even appologize to me for what they did. Stupid ass pigs, I seriously thought about filing a civil suit against them but, didn't have enough money for a lawyer and in a small town you don't want to bring that much attention to yourself with the cops. Anyway, I went out and bought a new remote and everything was all good. About 8 months later I had to disconnect my battery to replace my alternator. Low and behold the alarm doesn't work anymore. Take it over to circuit city(new people working there, that are actually helpfull) they tell me the brain is fried and I need to send it out to DEI to get it replaced. It was the begining of April of this year when I finally got around to getting it sent out. I still have not recieved a replacement!!! I call them about once a week and they always tell me the same thing ("sir, your work order is being processed and we will have your compenent shipped out to you as soon as possible.") So I really really really hate DEI worst company ever to deal with. If I don't get a new "brain" in the next month I'm gonna have my lawyer write them a letter saying that I am going to take legal action against them If they do not remberse me for the cost of the system, installation, and shipping. Gots to find a new alarm system. Peace-

you probably fried the brain somehow. 99 percent of the time, the problem is in the install. Circuit city uses butt connectors, crimp caps, shit like that. After 10 months the shit is bound to come off. there's more than likely just a wire loose. Next time take it to a real shop that solders it's connections. circuit city is a joke. They go for quantity, not quality.

Yea I totally agree with you, except that all the connections in my system were soldered. That was the first thing I checked after the original install and I was incredibly surprised. It really depends upon when you go there. At least at the one in my town they always have different people working there. I had a friend get a stereo installed and they screwed it up and fried his entire ignition system. Needless to say circuit city bought him a new ignition system. Peace-

It seems kind of weird to me that we spend thousands of dollars fixing up our cars then we trust the whole thing to a $200 car alarm.
My Viper alarm hasn't failed me yet but it acts weird sometimes - like sometimes I'll set the alarm and the siren will chirp but the lights won't blink, and sometimes the lights blink but the siren doesn't chirp. I know it's armed even though the lights don't blink, but I have a feeling it's going to crap out anytime now.

I don't trust any unnecessary electronics anywhere near my car. I don't even have power locks or windows. As for a security system, I've found that a Smith & Wesson sticker on the window works well. People are much more afraid of a .357 magnum than a siren and some blinking lights.
