What does this connector control??

On an '88 Formula 350 (L98 OBDI), the connector that plugs into the automatic shifter inside the center console (6-7 wire connector), what does it control?? I ask because I had it disconnected for about a year and my reverse lights didn't work, and I would get a random seat belt warning light. And now that I found it and connected it, it seems that the car runs a lot smoother, more power in the higher RPM's, better shifts...so i've determined that it controls reverse lights, but I was wondering what else cuz there's a bunch of wires in that connector and the car runs like it used to when I bought it.
