dumb ass ticket

Tonight, on my way to the weekly car meet, I was driving down the road going 40, and the speed limit on that road is 45. I was going 40 because cops are known to sit and wait on that road every thursday to catch speeders going to the meet. So, just as expected, there was a cop on the side of the road that pulled over a sentra. I was driving by and the cop yelled at me to pull over. I pull over and he asks for the usual shit, and asks me if I knew why he pulled me over. I said no, and he told me that there has been a law in effect for 2 years now(yeah right) that when a cop is pulled over, with his lights flashing, that you either have to go 25 mph under the speed limit, or pull over to the next lane. I have never heard of that law. Also, my friend got pulled over for that same exact thing a few weeks ago, and he did not get a ticket. Just a warning. I would have done the second option of pulling into the next lane because he was sticking out a little into the road, but it's a 2 way road, and if I did, I would have been going into oncoming traffic.
So, the fucker gives me a ticket for $118!!! What the hell is that shit! I am disputing this ticket because:
1. He was in the middle of writing up the sentra he had pulled over
2. He had no radar gun to tell how fast I was going
While he was writing my shit up, he pulled over 2 more cars. I swear, these bitches just sit there and wait to harass kids not even doing anything.

i've heard that you have to move into the next lane but i've never heard the 25mph thingy.
and those aren't really any reasons to fight it on because:
1) cops can pull over more than 1 car/person at a time
2) he didn't give you a ticket for speeding so there's no need for the radar gun.
don't get me wrong, i mean yeah the ticket is bullshit as all hell and it's a gay ass rule but you really don't have anything solid to fight it on and it'll be a waste of your time.

Believe it or that actually is the new law. There really is some 25 mph rule/other lane rule. Ive seen 2 cops pulling over multiple cars but never just one. Sorry to hear about the ticket though

Just show up at the court date and explain the situation. You will more than likely get the ticket reduced if nothing else, or see if there are any other options of getting out of it. (Driving school, community service, etc.) Hopefully the judge will be understanding and give you a break. You don't want this on insurance, so do everything you can to act professional and kiss ass. :grinyes:

Well, my dad is friends with a cop that lives in my neighborhood, so I'll see what he says, because he is actually pretty cool.

The reason for the law, is due to drivers hitting officers while they are performing their duties. The drivers tend to focus all of their attention on the activity on the side of the road instead of driving their vehice.
Thus they strike the police car, the officer or the civilian vehicle that is stopped. I have seen so many accidents where an officer or civilian were hurt or severely injured due people speeding by a traffic stop. That is why the law was passed. That is why there are speed reductions in and near construction zones as well. The law is for the safety of the officer and the public. It is an attempt to improve the safety of everyone. In Georgia we are required to either slow down or pull over one lane if possible ie; if there is no oncoming traffic in the opposing lane.
If it was I who pulled you over, I would have probably given you a warning. I make my decisions based on the offense, the reason for the offense and the way the individual conducts himself towards me. If he is courteous and respectful, I tend to lean on the warning side. If he is a jerk, then I will issue a citation or even 10-95 him (arrest him).
We have commercials on T.V. advising of the new law in Georgia. That doesn't mean everyone knows. It would be nice that if a new traffic law was introduced that the local or stae government would at least try to advise the public. It sucks finding out the hard way.
Good luck to you
John

I understand the reasoning for the new law but WTF.
I have never heard of that law, as I'm assuming that most of you haven't. It would be nice if these overpaid, lawmaking boneheads would inform the public when they make these types of laws.

That really sucks. Sorry to hear that. I definetly would talk to your cop friend. It's always great to have cop on your side. Trust me i know, i walked away from to situation where i should have been taken to jail because I knew cops and didn't even have to pay a fine for the viliations I received. But even if you can't get any help from him. Goto court and try fighting it. But go in there with an understanding and an appologetic personality. If you go in there all hot headed its not going to help out on anything. Good Luck to you

OK... My question... Why the f*ck did you stop. If hes on the side of the road whats he gonna do, run after you? If it was me he would have heard turbo and my bov... End of that. You put a few cars on him and take a few side streets, by the time his car is started (if he even does go after you) your gone. I do see your point about not having radar gun on you. How does he know you werent going 25 under the speed limit unless he's gunning you? And my last question what if the speed limit is 25 or say 15, do you stop or go in reverse? :naughty:

Well, where he pulled me over, it was a road leading right to the car meet, and at the meeting spot, there is always a shit load of cops. So, if I got passed the one who got me, there would have been like 3 others waiting and ready to chase me. Plus, the meet is in an industrial complex, right next to a municipal park, so there are speed bumps all over the place. So, I'm screwed anyway. Still gotta go talk to my dad's cop friend and see what he can do. If he can't do anything, I'm just gonna have to shell out the cash and take the fucking class cause my insurace is high enough as it is. AAAAAAHHHHH!

Wow. I had no clue there was a law like that. Thanks for the heads up though, since I pass all pulled-over cops doing the speed limit.

Still not as bad as getting a $350 ticket for speeding on the interstate. That just seems like alot for a state like SC. But I should mention that it was I-95 traveling south through SC. I was in my 97 RS and I decided to cruise along with a 00-02 eclipse who also was going about 85mph. It was also about midnight and the roads were nearly clear. We gradually increased speed when we got to SC now going about 110. Made it to the I-26 interchange in about an hour (keep in mind this section of I95 in SC is about 200 miles). A new Camaro comes off the interchange to join us (some of you have already jumped to the conclusion). He revs his engine and takes off to about 140, but I could barely keep up but the other eclipse passes him. This goes on and on til about 5 miles north of the south border, then all of a sudden, more lights appear to be flashing all over the camaro. He pulled us both over and says "I have been pacing both of you for about 70 miles well over 130. (I gave him my license and reg). I wrote your ticket for 101 in a 70. Have a good night."
Wow. That was quick. Fastest ticket I ever had written for me. It has yet to appear on my record since I live in florida. I havent bothered fighting it since I would have to drive 5 hours to Jasper County, SC, to try to fight a ticket. The cop would say he went easy on us for only writing it for 101, and he probably had a dash cam anyways. oh well, I still drive the same.

I bet if you were driving your gst you would have been able to pass him easy, as long as you didnt still have the speed limiter of 140.

unfortunately i didnt have it then but I wasnt aware there was a speed limiter in the car. unless the rev limiter tops out when the tranny reaches 7500rpms at 140 but I cant say i've gotten it up that high. I had the speedometer reach 140 in my talon before but I dont know if that was the actual speed. it was an auto but no turbo and it takes forever to reach that speed.

UPDATE!!:
Today, I finally had my court date for this moronic ticket. I pleaded no contest and won! Totally owned the judge with my defense. My main defense was that
1) Was never informed of the new law by the DMV since it came into effect after I had gotten my liscense.
2) The cop never informed me of how fast I was going.
3) And the most devestating was that he didn't write out the full violation statute and I had evidence to prove it. I had a page from my officer friend's law book and he gave it to me to show them.
All in all, I had to pay $75 ($30 of it was court fee), and I was on my way. Much better than paying $128 + points on liscense + traffic school.
Lesson of the day kiddies, slow down by cops on the side of the road, or switch to the farthest lane away from them lol.

I didn't know that either. I live in austin but the only cops that mess with me really are the county cops. I used to get stoped twice a week.
