91 escort wiring HELP!!!!!

I am trying to troubleshoot my mothers 91 escort.It seems that someone wanted the stereo pretty bad.well to make a long story short they were spooked before they cut the wires,but since then the headlights, tail lights,break lights or hazards just will not work.I'm not much of a ford mechanic(chevy,studebaker guy).So any help you may have would be greatly appreciated.If you happen to have a wiring diagram it would be a big help. Thanks

Here's my wild guess: All of these circuits come together under the steering column. With the exception of the brake lights all of these circuits have switches on the column. I'm thinking there is a cable disconnected under the steering column. Maybe they were initially trying to steal the whole car! If they knew what they were doing they could easily have hot wired and started the car by crossing a couple wires down there. Check it out. :2cents:
