leaf springs

I just noticed my leaf springs are not doing their job on my 97 XJ 4x4 so I decided to replace them. But first I had some questions...

1. I have a stack of four leafs, can I install 5 and if so what will be the difference in performance? Should I leave it at 4 leafs?

2. What difficulties could I expect. Is it as simple as it looks?

3. What is a reasonable price for a pair of leaf springs?

You can use either a 4 or 5 leaf (4 leaf with overload spring)
A good place to look for them is: www.jcwhitney.com (the site is down for maint. right now, but keep trying it)
As for the replacement, it is pretty straight forward and should take about 1/2 to 1 hour. You should start spraying all of the nuts and bolts involved with Liquid Wrench or PB Blaster once a day for about a week before you do the replacement.

Also you might want to get a new set of U-bolts too. U-bolts are suppose to be a one time use.

Install isnt that hard. When I lifted my Jeep I replaced the old packs with new ones. I had to battle 12 years of rust. But it wasnt that bad....
