Sad,sad, sad day.......

What a sad day in history......my silvy's been stolen....I can't believe that people can be that flipp'in *&%[email protected], I still owe about $15,000 on the truck, and my insurance won't cover it..... I only had liability and no theft insurance......When you are 22 years old, the insurance is up the roof, that is why I didn't take it.....they wanted about 700 canadian a month for insurance full coverage....that's nuts...I was paying 300 a month, and even that's ridiclous.....So now I have to pay all this money right away, and I don't get nothing at the end........I even had my baby parked in what was supposed to be the safest underground garage in the whole city....??????? The security gaurd is cheaking out the tapes, they say there are 16 cameras, so I'm sure that something is caught on them.... You know the worst thing is that over the weekend I had gone up north, and all my fishing gear, camping gear was all in the truck.....Also, my prized 'John Deere' toolbox, with all my favorite tools from back in the day, (you can't buy tools like this anymore) where also in the truck......Not to mention all the performance upgrades,.....and the dough spent on that......I estimated that I lost about $48,000 Canadian........Or if we calculate that I paid about ($7,000 for insurance.....about $6,000 for gas, and if we add the $48,000....that makes $61,000 I paid to drive my baby for about 1 in a half years, not that bad an investmeny, eh?) Oh, well sorry to blaber on......

Man, I'm really, really sorry to hear that. In the U.S., though, most financing institutions will not finance a vehicle unless you have full coverage. But, man I'm really sorry.

Greetings Silveradoking,

Sorry to hear of your loss. If you don't mind - I have a couple questions that might help the rest of us.

1. What yearand model of Silverado did you have?

2. Did it have the Chevy theft deterrent system?

3. Was there glass on the ground (did they break a window to gain entrance)?

4. With 16 cameras - I'm curious - was there a guard and did he hear an alarm or horn honking alarm or anything?

5. Did you have keyless remote entry that got "recorded"? (if no broken glass and no alarms sounding from prior questions - this is then the most likely)?

6. Did you have a "hideout" key that might have been found?

Again - sorry for your loss. Hope things get better for you.

sorry to hear about your luck. hopefully they find the truck and its not hurt to bad, but when they are stolen they usually get abused. i know my bank wont give me a loan unless i have full coverage until it is payed off. thats weird that they didnt make you.

WOW I can't tell ya how sorry I am for ya. gotta love Insurance companies. Yopu pay all that to them, and still get crap in return. Even with my 99' All i have is Comp and I pay $1200! thats in US. who knows, maybe its just a couple of kids who wanted to take it for a joy ride, never know, it might turn up. On the brighter side of this, your truck was sooo nice that someone else HAD to have it. hehe

That's a rough one indeed. I just bought an 05 1500 crew cab and they gave me next to nothing for my 89 1500 on a trade in! If I knew then what I know now I would have kept it and given it to you! It didn't even cover the cost of the new wheels and tires! Hang in there.

Thanks guys for everything.....you know it doesn't really hit you till later on....I don't know what I am going to do.....people are telling me that if the vehicle is finaced then I have to get full coverage....but I don't know why they didn't give it to me......at least the theft insurance which cost me like 5 or 6 bucks a month.....looks like I will have to talk it over with my lawyer.....

Answers to your questions white lightening...

1.2001 silverado ls 4x4 extended cab with all the options.....shiny clean black with really nice shoes....
2. yes the chevy alarm was on.....my friend at the dealership told me that the alarms are trash.....and it is like you don't even have it...
3.There was no glass on the ground......these guys were pros....they cut the wires for the alarm....jimmied the door....and hot wired the the truck (my baby)I feel like crying right about now.....
4. the gaurd in the building probably sleeps in the rec room and then goes home.....
5. sorry man I don't know what you mean...
6. no there was no hideout key....I have both keys with me at all times....

thanks blender, white, sport, badbowtie, and thanks crowe for the offer.....it sucks but I really need another truck...but i really can't afford it at this moment...most of my money is in some sort of investments....so I probably will have to buy some piece of junk for a couple hundred bucks....at least for the next 6 months until I can pull some of my money out.....the dawm bastrad that took it really kind of set me back....and even now with me being a avid fishing, hunting, outdoors person and the season is kind of just around the corner, I guess I will be missing most of this season off....this really sucks....thanks guys....

Sorry for your loss buddy.

Definitely a lesson to be learned here for all of us. We may not want to pay those snakes of insurance companies, so take of our own. Get LoJack, for all those in similar situations like Silveradoking. Costs less than a grand, and they will get your vehicle back-might even catch the $#ckers.

Now, does OnStar act like lojack in that respect?

as for onstar, the police don't have access to it but, onstar will call the police and tell them where the vehical is or where it is going. but you must pay the monthly fee to have it on (at least that is how it was put to me).

That is exactly how onstar works. If its lost or stolen you can call onstar, they will report to the authorities on its exact location. From what I have heard though, only as long as the battery is hooked up. I would have though GM would have put some type of redundant system that would power only the gps if the batt is disconnected which they might. The safe and sound service which is door lockout, flat tire, out of gas, remote diagnostics, air bag deployment, emergency services and gps locating is only 16 bucks per month. I upgraded my package and went with directions and connections + safe and sound and love it to death, will not have another GM without onstar.

Another way to go is outside of a car alarm with hood pins and starter disable is as follows, when I bought my silverado it came installed from the dealer with a starter disable. The company that makes the disabler guarentees that if your vehicle is stolen and not found within I think 30 days they will buy you a new vehicle. Now there is probably some fine print that gets them out of it, but it worked really well if you didnt mind another key fob on you keys.

Yeah, it was aftermarket, I will try and find out what brand it is. If anyone is interested I have mine will sell it, its a snap to install only takes a min. if interested let me know. My alarm has remote start and starter disable.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. I've had several cars stolen (gotta love Miami) and it totally sucks to go back to your spot and see it empty. I would love to catch a car thief in the act, but then I'm sure I'd end up in jail as I unleashed my anger from losing 2 Mustangs and a 86 Monte Carlo SS with a new crate motor in it. :crying:

u can get any alarm with starter disable and have it put in for around 200 and that should do keyless and also have starter disable and with also have a siren if some one hits the vehicle or opens a door. i would go with a DEI brand like viper, python, or clifford.
