Well, My cousins friend just bought a 1998 Mitsu Eclipse GST and he thinks he's the biggest baddest MFer around, even though it's stock and automatic......... He's going around telling everyone that a stock GST runs a low 15, high 14 quarter mile and how his shit is amazing. I told him that the manual can do that but not the Auto. And he tells me that I don't know what I'm talking about and that he'll smoke me. Needless to say, he hasn't seen my car run yet (I get it back on Friday :naughty:) And he wants some of me once I get it back LOL.
But anyways, My cousin also has a female friend with an Eclipse GT (Ashley) which is also stock and automatic (tiptronic) and they have a race set up. I think this is a close one and honestly I don't know who will win. I hear that they punched it together once and she walked him. But he said "I wasn't trying!!!!!!!!!!!!"
I talked to him today to see if he knew how to launch the car. And it seems that he knows how to launch it while in boost (theoretically) and that Ashley (Eclipse GT) will just punch the gas down and go for it.
The GST's kill list (which he brags about) consists of a Mustang V6, Mazda Miata, Stock Honda Civic. Deaths consist of a B18C1CRX.
Eclipse GT Kill list consists of......... well the GST but he wasn't trying (he claims)...........
So this race goes down this weekend. Gonna be a 1/4 mile and from a dig?

I'm confused, (on paper) the GST has more hp, more torque available sooner, it's lighter and it redlines higher than the GT - why wouldn't the GST walk the GT?

gst. auto or manual. they have about (damn near close) the same hp(auto). v6 eclipses are that hot. Except for the 06. then again....its not that much, if at all quicker the the turbo.
So gst it is.

I would go with the GT. I can't immagine why he would only get walked and not be trying. Also he thinks of himself as some sort of street racer so his auto GST likely has alot harder miles on it than the new GT owned by a girl. Who knows how the cars are working, they are close enough in power and weight that sharper autoshifts with the newer eclipse could inch the GST out. Besides your cousins friend seems full of BS anyway and I would like to see him beat by a girl.

I don’t see how she could win, unless he has a dead cylinder. Clearly the GST is a better car it has more torque and its at lower RPMs.
I know people are going get mad at me for saying this, But girls are usually bad drivers.
This is the way I see it going down: She will sit at the start idling. He will hold the brake and rev up the GST. The race will start she will hit the gas, he will fly off the line and since the GST has more power it’s just going to get farther and farther away.
Mitsubishi hasn’t made a good Eclipse since the second generation.

I don't see how its clearly a better car at all. It has nominally better numbers but its older and possibly in worse shape. Not to mention they already raced and he claimed not to have been trying after he had already lost. They are both automatic so its really not an issue of better driving. I don't think that knowing how to hold a brake peddal down at the same time as the gas is enough to be considered a great driver. That kind of crap is hard on a transmission, which we already know he does. Also who's to say after reving his car up and letting off the brake he dosn't spin his tires? I give it to the girl with the newer car.

I also disagree with the statement "mitsubishi hasn't made a good eclipse since the 2g" I've driven a 2003 GT-S, and although not the fastest thing in the world, it's V-6 pulls pretty decent from low speeds, and it's nicely appointed.

Mitsubishi should have never gaven up the AWD and turbo options. Ah well.
GST still has my vote, those things can have some mileage on them and still run strong.

Here's an update..........
Last night Ashley (Eclipse GT) and Brian (Eclipse GST) met up and everyone went to get some DEL TACO. Before they got to Del Taco, Brian told everyone he'll met them there and him and my cousin went to the gas station first. While he was at the gas station, He told my cousin that he knows he's suppose to launch at 3000rpms but that when he trys, all he gets is wheel spin. (That liar told me he knew how to launch........) Come to find out, my cousin says Brian holds it at 3000rpms and lets off the brake and FLOORS IT! Burning the hell out of his tires............ (Not to good a driver.) Now he decided it's best to take off at 2300rpms so no wheel spin (BUT HELLA BOG!!!). Well anyway, Everyone chilled at Del Taco, Grubbed up and then decided to go home. On the way home, my cousin Brandon sugessted that they race now since both cars are out together. Ashley agreed and Brain (although very reluctant and making up excuses) says, maybe, well see.....
Low and behold, they're driving down california street (long straight street with 1/4mile stretches between the each of the stoplights.) And Ashley slows down right on the side of Brian. There both crusin about 20-25mph. My cousins riding in Brians GST and his GF is Riding in Ashley GT, so 1 passenger in each car. Ashley revs the engine up and looks to Brain. Brian then stomps the gas down and Ashley follows.
Soon as Brian stomps on the gas, his car buckles down and speeds up. You hear the turbo spooling while the RPMs shoot up then the blow off valve sounds, and his automatic chirps into 2nd gears. Intially he pulls a tiny bit on Ashley because he got the jump. But she reels him back in, and keeps pulling, walking him AGAIN! Once her rear bumper is at his front bumper, he shuts down and brakes hard (WTF?) Anyways, he tells my cousin that he wasn't really trying because he doesn't know California street real well and doesn't want to risk running into a cop...... The girls slow down and pull up next to him, Laughing their asses off! He never looks over to them.
Well this is the second time shes walked him. But he still claims to have not been trying. The anticiapation builds to see the "True Monster" his car really is. They still have a race set up this weekend and I'm taking the video camera (he doesn't know). He's making everyone drive like 10 miles away to a street that he "Knows real well" and wants to run at.
Well, Now knowing this bit of information.....
PLACE YOUR BETS...... bet changing is allowed.

Cuz I know for damn sure that the GSt although auto should easily take, not destroy, but take the GT.

Its not my cousins car, It's his friend Brian's car. Brian raced the girl, not my cousin. I was in the passengers seat.
I have no idea what is up with his car........ He just got it like 2 months ago used. Not sure on the mileage but its' a 98. I only have 61,000 miles on my GSX and when I was stock, I MURDERED GTS's, GT's, and GS-T's. Previous owners probably beat it to hell.......(Luckly mine was owned by Old Geezers that traded it in for a PT Crusier Convertable).
Btw yes his blow off valve sounds.

Haha, yeah I'm sure it sounds. That was stupid of me. I was under the impression that since you never let off the gas with on auto, the BOV does not have to release air since the throttle is never closed.

That surprises me that she would walk away from the gst. I figured it would have been a close race. I raced my buddies stock 99 gsx with my 00 gt w/ intake/exhaust (both 5spd) from a 60 mph roll and pulled a car and a half on him. Same thing happened when we went from a 5 mph roll. So I figured stock vs stock they would be much closer.

Decent would be a good way to describe 3 gen. Even the hi-points you mentioned (pretty decent from low speeds, nicely appointed) aren’t the type thing that makes a good sport compact.
The 1 & 2 gen were good because they were designed around a hi-power 4 cylinder engine that made them small & light and that made them good.
The 3 gen: Is bigger, heavier, has a less powerful V6 and no AWD.
The 4 gen: I don’t get it, the thing weighs and costs as much as a Mustang. Isn’t the whole point sport compact to be cheaper and lighter then it’s competition? What is the point of this car?
Now back to GT vs GST.
I think I may change my bet I’m not sure I will yet. Her walking him from a 20 MPH roll could mean:
His tires are under-inflated.
There is something wrong with his car.
He actual stopped racing <yeah right.
Savior1974 could you ask Brian if he has checked his tire pressure and look at his car to see if there is anything obviously wrong with it?

I'll have to take a look at his car next time I'm around them. Honestly the fact that she walked him, shocks the hell out of me, But thats what proves that bench racing is for suckers. He has ALL the advantages on the books, but he gets walked time and time again..... Maybe someting is wrong with his car....... or his driving ability.
Also, I'm not sure if it makes a difference, but when she races him, she uses the tiptronic shifting. Don't think that makes a dfference though..... or does it........
BTW, this tread is not DSM biased. Usually they are the better car, performance wise. But we all know, almost in all cases, races always come down to the drivers. And I have a feeling, this one is gonna come down to it too. Like I said, there will be a video.

hey where's the poll on this thing?!...
the GT will win, its a fed-spec, like 10more ponies than my car, if my car had an automatic...also, turbo automatic GS-T's are unimpressive and especially unimpressive w/ AWD cuz it just slows them down, Mitsubishi can't make fast automatics
And just for the record, the 2000's had 205hp not 200 like the other models

He has ALL the advantages on the books, but he gets walked time and time again..... Maybe someting is wrong with his car....... or his driving ability.
Even with the tiptronic, it doesn’t seem like driver ability would make much deference from a 20 MPH roll.
I just had an idea after they race you should have them switch cars and race again and get that on video to.

Perhaps you should say "On an Average Males tend to be slightly superior drivers"
Still. still not true. I think guys are way worse, cause we tend to do more dumb shit and get in wrecks.
Going fast and whatnot isn't good driving. It's bad driving, you realise that right?

I think there are two definitions of good driver.
Good at following road rules.
Good at controlling your car.

This is the Street Racing forum, a forum dedicated to an illegal activity. In this forum doing what most people call “dumb shit” makes you a good driver. In this forum “Going fast and whatnot” + public roads = good driving.
Everything said in this forum has to be take in context.

Its true...good driver definition here means you get the most out of your car, race without injuring youself or others, and get out of tough jams...but if insurance companies know i dont think theyd consider us good drivers
and GT vs gst....GT...more hp better automatic from a roll so awd is hurt, and the gst is heavy

For those unfamiliar with DSM's the GST is FWD.

GT and GST are both FWD. And the GT is no lightweight itself weighing in at a little over 3000 lbs.

A little heavier with comparable power... means it'll probably hook better... and with a V6 the torque curve is probably nice and flat.
My money is still on the GT.

I put all the specs of the cars on the fist post in the forums..... Both cars are FWD, the GST has more Hp and tourque, and the GST is lighter...... But for some reason, keeps losing. The offical race is suppose to happen either tonight or tomarrow night. BTW the switching of the cars and drivers was a good idea. I'll make sure the to get Both of the races on film too.

:iagree:
But the strange thing is that if you take the same cars, both being manual, With equal drivers, the GST will take the GT by a decent amount. I've seen it tons of times. I really think it has something to do with the auto transmission differences between the GST and the GT.

^^ actually it SHOULD be dead even, if the eclipse was a 2000 GT manual vs. a 98 GST manual as opposed to any other model 3g eclipse, well except for the GTS possibly. A GS-T will kick any cali-spec 5speed eclipse stock for stock to the ground though
the V6 model eclipses get most all of their torque by 2k rpm, really nice really flat
http://roadraceengineering.com/3g/3g-5spdv6dyno.jpg
^^ thats a cali-spec a fed-spec should have 5-10whp more than that

Your thinking of the AWD GSX, which if I remember correctly is only 20-30 lbs heavier then the FWD GT.

have your friend get an mbc and crank up the boost a little for a race if he doesn't want to keep getting embarrassed. That will solve his speed defficiency issues while he takes his car to a local mechanic for a good inspection.
Tiptronic does have an advantage from a roll because it enables someone to downshift and stay in one gear until an upshift is made, so if his auto downshifts like a slug it could play a factor. Plus if its from low roll speeds, the first gear in the GT pulls like hell while the gst will most likely be in 2nd and have to downshift back to first before being to jump in the race.
Age is killer here. If paired up, both in healthy condition. I'd bet on the GST.
Stock DSM's are not what constructed the foundation of the DSM craze. A DSM is known for it's ability to be fast for cheap. If your friend wants to start inching on more cars have him start off with a tune up, mbc and maybe something minor for the exhaust like an intake or test pipe.

a little side note, the tiptronic in the 3g eclipse and outlander is the same, i was able to push past redline in my friends outlander (by mistake of course) in tip mode.

I have "been there, done that" with the 2 cars in my sig.
At the time of the race the GT had a cat back and my GST only had a DP and race cat. My GST is a manual and his GT is a triptronic (or whatever it's called).
My GST walked on my friends GT. Had him by about 2 - 3 car lengths by 80mph.
Now, I just kick his ass all over the place. :naughty:

Well I guess there should be a video in this thread so how about a video as retarded as this thread is: and it has an Eclipse in it. (http://videos.streetfire.net/Player.aspx?fileid=A10EDE60-49DF-42E8-81E8-1DF2B25F32FB&kw=4&p=4)

if the gst is in good shape, and the retard at the wheel can keep the power up and the tires down, i dont see why he shouldnt take her from a stop. idk about the 2nd gen, but the 1st gen (you know, the REAL DSM's) the auto had a smaller turbo or something, and like 10 or more fewer hp than the stick around 190 if i recall. as for the g.v.b driving comment, biology and brain chemistry show that men are on average better at spatial reasoning, which it an important part of driving at anyspeed. yeh, women MAY be SAFER drivers, but that doesnt make them better. ofcourse, i would argue that a good driver is one who can get out of a bad situation, whereas women tend not to get into them. From what ive seen personally, women get in more minor accidents, men get in fewer, but more serious accidents.
