Hey everyone :) , I have a couple of questions and im not too sure where to start so .. Ill just start simple..
Stroker Motor... What is it that exactly makes a 383 stroker motor, a 383 stroker lol.. Isnt it just a bored 350 with a 400 crankshaft? The reason my questions is, I want to drop one of those in my 83 camaro and im not too sure on how much a pain in the *bleep* it will be.
I bought my camaro for 1200 dollars and I think I got a good deal though.. 4 disk anti lock brakes and posi rearend and the t-tops dont leak, interior is in good condition and the body is cherry except for a dent in the front right wheel well, it has a carbed 350 with headers and full exhaust (lol burnt up cherry bombs), and a beat up 700r4 transmission (stock that came with car? lol) thats my second questions,.. wondering if it was a good deal.
Thanks alot for your replies guys. :)
I also believe the block is SBC also.

The extra long stroke of the 383 is what makes it a "stroker". By changing the crankshaft you increase the stroke and that gives it the name. Externally a 383 is the same as a 350, so if you have a 350 in your car now, changing it over shouldnt be much different.

sounds like a damn good deal to me, and installing the 383 would not be hard at all with your carbed setup. the 383 is externally identical to the 350 thats in there. so all the accesories will bolt right up to the 383. and it will even look the same. your 700R4 however is going to need some work to hold up. a B&M transkit will be a nessesary evil, i also reccomend a shift kit, corvette servo, and a higher stall converter, i have a 2600 and am very happy with the way the setup works. however it does not like my 2.77 gears and i need to install deeper ones, which i was planning on doing anyway.

that's a damn good deal for that car! sounds like a 87 IROC. unfortuantely you will spend about the same price on a stroker crank if you buy brand new... which you probably will because 400ci cranks are not very common and even least common in useable condition.
find a good machine shop. you'll need it. the cylinder walls will need to be cut in order to clear the connecting rods as they swing. buy a TCI rattler harmonic balancer. happy stoking... lol.

You wont have a bit of trouble putting a 383 in the place of the 350 it's the same block, and everything mounts the same. But I would redo the trans first thing or u will gut it.
