About what is the average life expentancy on a standard (not pristine/not abused) GST engine? I'm looking into picking one up but it's got 107K on it. I want to use it as a daily driver for going 80 miles to school and back a couple times a week. Do these make it up to 200k miles?

Mines had 104k miles when i bought it and the owner confessed that he races it alot. After i bought it i redline almost 70$ of the time and it still ran perfectly. I crashed at 115k so i dont know. Depends on the year i guess.

How much did you pay for it? This guys asking 4,500 minimum. Also it's an Auto. Are the auto tranny's slow? I would much rather prefer a 5 speed, but this was whats available.

There are just to many variables to take into consideration as to how long an engine will last. Regardless of what you may have heard, 4g63 engines are very reliable engines as long as regular maintenance and preventive measures are performed (As with any engine). IMO 4g63's have a reputation of being "unreliable" since most owners give it a good pounding. Also, the 4g63 is not a average mechanics cup of tea, they seem to be more complicated and more dificult to work on in comparison to the average domestic engine. Therefore many mechanics tend to mess things up (especially the cam timing, a.k.a timing belt). Remember, high performance = high maintenance, my 4g63NA has over 275 000km (~171 875 miles) and is running strong w/o burning or leaking oil. Yes I have had the occasional mechanical failure, but they were all caused by me running the motor past it's limits.
The Auto trans turbo models had signifigantly smaller injectors than the manual version. The auto is also heavier, so basically the manual is much quicker (w/good driver) then the auto. If you're considering doing a auto to manual conversion, spare yourself and by a manual, this conversion is possible (and has been done) but the time and cost makes it not worth while IMO.

He is looking at a 2g. All 2g injectors are 450's. I wouldn't buy a 97 with that many miles. My 97 has 45k, my 95 has 80k. What you need to know is it the car has been stock for 110k miles, because I doubt it.

stock cars run for a loooong time, but when you start modding they more things start breaking. But I woulden't go for it. Keep looking something better will show up.
