I have a 2000 Ford Taurus with the antitheft system, which I don't know how to work. I also don't have electric locks. The transmitter is a two button with FCC id J5523518T1. I have done numerous searches but can't get any useful results on what this is for or how it works. I bought the car used and can't find a remote start antenna, and since I don't have electric locks I don't know the problem. Please help. The transmitter has a big round button, and a small football shaped button next to it, with the LED in the top right corner. Theres is no brand name or labeling on it. I have also made sure the battery has enough power. I have also tried the programming instructions but they didn't work and I'm pretty sure thats only for non-aftermarket transmitters.

Yep, you have a key fob for an aftermarket system of some sort. It's hard telling if it's hooked up or even if it's for your car. The large button is probably the arm/disarm button and the smaller button is probably for a power trunk release. It's very hard to guess where the "brain" is installed. Look under the dash on both sides of the car for some wires that don't look factory and follow them. Maybe you'll find the main module, or maybe you'll find where it used to be.
I did a quick search on Google for the FCC id you listed. Does your remote match either of the ones at http://www.remotesunlimited.com/Detail/Detail140.htm
?
Sounds like that remote was sold under many different brands. The one on the right looks a lot like a typical "Directed Electronics, Inc." remote. You might be able to find a diagram and manual off of Hornet's website or some of the other DEI brands. Also try the Crimestopper website, they have some of their manuals available for download.

I found that website too woth those two remotes, but its a dufferent looking one. Im sire the cicuit board is the same tho becuase the buttons on the board would be in the same place to match up with the buttons on the case. So I think it is the same remote as those with a different or older case style. I looked under the dash, and the only box I saw was a fuse box, but I dont know much about what I should see down there. Is there any place I could get a diagram from someplace so I could see what's under the dash?

I was also thinking maybe the person that previously had thje car, or maybe the dealer took whatever it was out of the car, but why would he give me the keychaoin. I'm taking the car to the dealer to fix problems from the recalls so I figured maybe they can help while I'm there.

A typical car alarm module will be a black box with one or more connectors attached, usually along one side. The box will be about 3 inches by 4 inches by 1 inch. It is up to the installer where they put the module. It will usually be installed in the cabin towards the front since that is where most of the wires they will want to interface with will be located. This could be under a front seat, under the center console, behind the radio, or above/behind the glovebox. If the installer felt like running wires, it could be mounted under the rear seat or in the trunk as well.
Do you have an LED mounted that doesn't appear to do anything, or a toggle or push button switch that you don't know what it does? If so, follow the wires from the LED or switch and they will likely lead to the alarm module.
Good luck!

I don't know if this LED is part of the passive security system that according to the manual are in all of the 200 Tauruses, but aling with the blinking red light on the dash that says theft, there is a small led to the right of the headlight switch to the left of the steering wheel. If you push it, it clicks in. It seems to double as a light, and a switch. I havent been able to find anything under the seats or in the trunk, and didn't notice anything when I wired a stereo sustem in the car, so the only place could be behind the glove box, but all I can se is a big steelthing, which im gueesing is for the air conditioning vents. The only other place I havent checked is underneath the panel on the right side of the trunk. I pulled it back and saw nothing but didn't do a thorough search. Im about to give up, and wondering if anybody else has this LED on their newer model Tauruses.

It sounds like that LED is an aftermarket LED. You don't have aftermarket driving lights, do you? That is about the only other thing that people will commonly add lighted switches for.
If you press the LED again does it pop back out? If not, I'm guessing that you are pushing the LED thorugh the LED holder. Can you see the back side of the LED? If so, follow the wires and see if they lead you to what appears to be an alarm module.

No its defintely a button. It has the click sound, and pops back out when you press it. Basically its just like the type of button on your tv. But the button is an LED. I can't really find where the wires lead, but the switch is not on the same plastic panel the lights are on. The led is the same exact size as the tranmitter on the top of a remote, and its surrounded by a black ring of plastic. Ill take a picture of it if I have time because its hard to explain. So if anybody knows what I'm talking about or has a 2000 Taurus ill try to get pictures up.

Im confused about putting images in, but they are both in my gallery, so hopefully that will be ok for anyone to view. One is the tranmitter, and the other is the led button. The black panel on the left is headlight switch, above is air cinditioning vents, and on the right is the steering wheel. Just wondering if anybody else has them on their Taurus. Especially If you also have the 2000 taurus. If it makes any difference its an SE model.

Actually everything IS electric Except the locks. Pretty wierd. Electrioc windows and mirrors, but not locks. You can see the oval plastic in the door where the electric lock switches would go. But anyways, any help with the pictures(that i put in my gallery because im stupid) would be helpful.

I looked way up under the dash and theres a black box, but it looks like it was there at the factory, because theres no way to get to it without taking out the entire front panel. It is right behind the LED but has no markings on it.

That is definitely not a factory Ford remote key fob, and the LED does not look factory either. I have a 1998 Taurus SHO, so my dash layout is different, but most car makers will not have an LED in the dash like that, they would put it in a panel that is not part of the assembled dash.
Do what you can to get to the back of that LED/switch and follow the wires from it. They are bound to lead to the aftermarket alarm if it's still in the car.

The part I can see is that back of the led, but its just a metal clip, no wires coming out, but no cut or disconnected wires. It Is part of a black box way up in the dash, but I can'y get at it or see any markings without having to take out the dash panel. Is there any way to take out the dash in this area without breaking anything?

It looks like there should be two bolts near the bottom of the trim panel below the steering column. If you remove those two bolts, you should be able to gently pull the panel away from the dash at the top of the panel. That should allow you to look to the left and see the box and the LED/switch better.

i can get out the panel below the steering column, but i cant get off the panel the LED is in without taking off the whole dash becuase its all one piece. But it looks like that small section should be able to come off. Anyone ever taken out this part of the dash? And how?
