Buick transmissions prone to failure

Just got a call from GM representative (where I sent email complaining of transmission failure after only 54.000 km). No help from them is forthcoming..
Assuming that Buick is one solid car, I declained to purchase the extended warranty when I bought it. The car only had 31.000 km on the clock and I was determined to take a good care of it. (Oil changes etc..).
First the transmission (three months ago) started to shift roughly when hot. Had the faulty solenoid changed (I wrote about it here in previous links). Now the transmission completely failed.
I am without car now. Luckily, my place of work is only 3.7 km away, I am bycicling. My wife (works at the same college) has to walk. I purchased the car in June 2003, cost me over $17.000 Canadian, (Taxes included).
I just want to warn all of you who entertain the though of going Buick, get in writing some sort of extra warranty on transmission. This forum has already voiced quite few complains regarding the Buick's transmissions. I can not afford to get a new car, and I do not feel that I should have to get rid of vehicle that has only little over 50.000 km on tachometer. I am very upset.
