Hey guys... I have an 89 ranger with a 302 small block in it. It has a Edelbrock 600 carburator. I am running the AOD Tranny and I have the Lokar Bracket set up for the T.V. (kickdown cable)....

I need a general description on what to do to set up the correct line pressure to shift good and not be too loose so it doesnt burn the tranny up. It came with directions but they are so bull shit and require the weirdest ass tools that we DONT have and are not going to buy for some redicilous price.

Any help would be great!

Thanks

I am reffering to CAR CRAFT magazine Nov 2004 pages 96-97

The AOD's TV linkage has to travel at the same proprtion to the throttle linkage. you need to set up the tv cable to make the travel distance of both throttle and TV linkage the same. the objective is to have the same distance from the throttle shaft to the TV cable hookup as you do for the throttle shaft to the accelerator cable.

you need to adjust the cable. Transmission has to be properlly filled and the fluid to be at operting temperature. At WOT the tv cable should be fully extended. the final adjustment may cause the cable to fall short of full extension, but its important to verify the cable isn't reaching the end of its travel before the throttle is completely open.(that would cause the throttle to be limited and result in damaging the linkage to the throttle valve.)

after you verify the WOT position of the tv cable. check that there is no slack in the cable at idle position. (slight tension is ok but a loose cable is bad.)

The article goes on to say that after these adjustments were made you can fine tune based on driving feedback. If shifting occurs too soon, and feel soft tighten the cable slightly and see if it shifts better. If the shifts are delayed and are harsh, then loosen the cable. of the two evils it is better to have the shifts on the firm side, becouse soft early shifts indicate a lack of line pressure as a result of a looseTV cable adj. and this will cause premature failure.

the article also continues for those who opt.on performing precise fine adjustment procedures that require pressure gauges and special tools. they mention that lokar and ford factory proceedures differ.

Instructions geared for the DIY can be obtained from LenTech Automatics (613)838-5390 www.lentechautomatics.com

I hope this helps check for backcopies or your library for the complete article.
