:screwy:

::walks into store, finds air filter recharging kit::
::walks to counter::

Girl: "Anyone helping you?" after i stood there for a couple minutes
::walks to register, puts box down::

Girl: "10.59"
::hands 11 bucks over::
girl takes money, deposits in register and stares at change trays for a minute
Girl to guy next to her: "... $11.00"
Guy to girl: "42 cents"
::girl hands me 42 cents change and receipt::
Girl: "Do you want a bag?"
::stares at girl, then change, then guy, then change...::
Girl: "Do you want a bag?
Me: "no"
::walks away baffled at humanity::

now I realize that $9.99x1.06% is like $10.589 but comon! not only could she not add but he couldn't either!! ::sigh::

Is this pick on Autozone day???? :lol2:

Heres a good one. I went into a Checker Auto Parts one day. They're also call Kragen or Shucks depending where you live. The parts clerk had a big ASE Certified Parts Tech logo on his shirt.

I asked him where he kept the tranny additives. Told him I might have a sticky solenoid/valve in my automatic transmission.

He replied by stating that there were no valves in the transmission. I walked out of the store shaking my head. :shakehead

I am also an ASE certified parts tech, but that credential means nothing. When I took the test, the questions were so easy that I finished it
in less than 10 minutes, and it's 80 questions. I am proud to be a good parts guy, something that's getting harder and harder to find, due to parts stores not valuing experience and not wanting to pay people what they are worth. Instead you get some half wit parts monkey that thinks a patch on his shirt means something.

Don't take it personal Rich. You're probably the exception and not the rule. These poor parts guys down here get near minimum wage and on top of that have to be bilingual (English/Spanish). :dunno:

OK, walked into a parts place in Michigan. Asked for a set of plugs, cap, wires and oil filter, for a 1966 GTO.The kid goes into "big book of I don't know shit". Went into the back room. Came out with SIX plugs, a cap for a six banger Ford. AND THEN SAID, sir, I'm sorry but that car doesn't show a oil filter for that year.
I looked at the other customer. He said, "Can you hold the door for me on your way out. I think I will be leaveig right behind you". He wanted a set of wires for a 383 Road Runner. I held the door for him.
I thought only Home Depot could find those kind of people.

No offense taken, what I was getting at is there are many people on this side of the counter that don't know shit and I feel your pain. Stories like Kustom's above happen way too frequently. I agree with you guys that most box stores have parts monkeys with no clue. The ASE test should be much harder, so that patch means something, regrettably it doesn't. I had a joke called Rich and the parts monkey, I'll see if I can find it and I'll post it here. You guys will love it!!!! ;)

Boy, that's the first time one of my stories have been too frequently.
That's the point i think we were all trying to make. Auto store workers, don't know how to say, "I don't know". They all think when they get the jobs, ASE info, is part of the job. And they know it all.

Okay folks, I am NOT a car guy. I've learned what little I know by owning cars when I was younger that needed work regularly and I couldn't afford to take it in every time.

A while back I needed to do rotors and pads on my 94 Caravan. The guy at Autozone told me that if I wanted to save a little money I didn't need to replace the caliper travel guide pins and their bushings. Well I'm all for saving a little money but evein I know that wasn't a very good idea. I mean, it's a 94 not an 04. I told him to give them to me anyway.

I should have paid closer attention because when I got home and opened the bag I had pins for only one side but bushings for both.

Think about it, this person is giving advise to people who are doing this stuff for the first time.
