2001 Malibu Problem!!!!

Hello
Don't even know if anyone reads this but the battery light came on today in my 2001 Malibu. The engine runs and everything but the battery light stays on. So I'm wondering what could be possibly wrong with the car.
I've already made an appointment to have it checked but that won't be til Monday. Hope it's safe to drive until then.

Anyways, I got it fixed. It was an alternator problem.

I have a 2000 malibu and the same issue occured to me on the way in to work this morning - i checked the belts - no cracks, tight as a drum, and i checked the battery, and didn't find any corrosion or oxidation. Out of curiosity - do you know what was wrong with the alternator? Were the dashboard lights - like the odomiter dimmed? Thanks in advance!
