I have 1999 Toyota 4Runner SR5.
When I start my engine in the morning it gives off a loud screech for about 3 seconds then its gone. It only happens after my truck has been off over night. Im pretty sure its the belts but I know very very little about engines. Any suggestions????
Thanks

It is your belt(s). Inspect your belts. See if there is a glaze (shiny), or see if it is loose at all. Belts squeel more when they are cold. Even a bit of oil on them will make it do it. A/C belts are awesome for doing it since A/C compressors work the belt more than anything. Is the A/C on when you start it?

If you want your a/c to last almost 50% longer......make sure the a/c is OFF before you start the engine. Turn a/c off before turning off the engine also. Common sense
Making sure the AC is OFF before starting the engine is better for the engine also. Starting the engine puts more stress and wear on the engine than almost anything else.

see how tight the belts are, you may just need to tighten them up.
