Racing from a Stop or from a Roll?

I was wondering what everyone likes best.
i like going from a stop, mainly becasue i have awd (which isnt too bad from a roll either) but also because its easier to find people to race (for me at least).

I like launching my MR2, I wouldnt call it easy but its definately frequently my edge in a race. So I vote for from a STOP.

I wish we ran our street racing fourm like Honda tech does.

I'd much rather race from a roll. Prolly becuase I pull 2.3 60's, but I also think its more of a comparison of the cars from a roll.

Roll...doesn't chew up tires or transmissions that way :D

Definitely a stop.

I (personally) would not have spent thousands upon thousands of dollars on traction/suspension/readend upgrades had I wanted to race from a roll. A more "all around complete car" is needed to race from a stop, where traction and the driver's skill in launching a car come into play.

Just my opinion though.

Gotta agree with Rob. Racing from a dig shows who can drive their car. Anybody can race from a roll, just proves who's making more power. From a stop shows who can handle the power they have :iceslolan I'll take a roll race if that's all I can get, or if I just happen to be cruising down the highway and come up on someone that wants to race, but if I get a choice, it's from a dig.

In the Camaro I like it from a dig, in the Cobalt gimmie a nice roll race. Roll racing is much more convienient on the streets as well, at least in Az it is. Most of our driving time is spent on the move, as apposed to sitting at lights or stop signs. Lotta open straits here.

I prefer racing from the passenger seat. You get to talk all the smack you want, and if you lose it's not on your shoulders. If you win, you get to talk more smack. You pretty much always win the races either way....

lol @ civracer95 :icon16:

i say from a stop, because my car has an auto tranny and from a roll it takes a second or two to realize "oh shit i gotta go!" the only car ive raced from a roll was a 94-95 mustang gt, but i still won so its all good. automatics suck froma roll, but from a dig my car kicks ass.

if froma roll was really important at all, why the hell does noone get a running start on a 1/4 mile track :loser:

I'm not picky, but I prefer from a Dig...

Haven't tried launching the Camaro yet... I'm sure that'll be interesting.

I like going from a dig...but I rarely turn down a race from a roll.

I would have to go with from a dig. I don't like going to outrageous speeds. From a dig you know who won by 100 mph.

id wrather race from a roll, dont wanna kill my tranny or transfer case and whatnot. though if its that serious, i'll give em a awd 6000rpm clutch dump if they insist

I like roll races starting at like 20...then going to 80 or so, just to see who's faster withing that midrange.

Also, i got a 95 tbird that is slow from a dig, but once she's moving it's alright-nothing spectacular.

I prefer anything i can get. I love racing from a dig, even if its a front wheel drive car i am lauching i still love doing it. Racing from a roll to me is more of a who's car is faster. Not a "i'm a better driver." But i prefer to choose the "i'm A better driver."

Axle hop and tire spin aren't your friend. You'll find out that the stock suspension (Provided the car is stock) is less then ideal. Oh yeah, and the 100+ ft lbs. of torque over your 240 will be very noticeable at launch.

I prefer from a dig. As much as people give me crap for a 2.2 sec. 60' time, I can outlaunch alot of people I come across.

Yeah, I had a lapse of judgement lastnight.

Figured I could launch the car at 3000rpm... well that was a stupid assumption. Was thinking I was still driving the 240z... What resulted in was about 50ft of parallel lines of Kuhmo dust on the freeway onramp.

Fun though.

Luckily tires are cheap for your car though. You can pick tires up for like $100 each easily.

I bought 4 tires on ebay for $350/ plus S&H. So what if they're not namebrand :p

not that my stock 1500 is exactly gonna break into the 11s i still prefer from a dead stop. thats the only way to really compare a vehicles guts. i dont care wut anyone says, one guy honkin his horn or waving isnt exactly the most scientific of acceleration tests. when the pro drag racing organizations start their races from 50 ill change my mind.

i like rolls because there isn't any tire screeching.....cops around here are anal...they hear a chirp from a mile away.....

a dig. If I coordinate my pedal movements just so the gas pedal goes from light to full as the clutch is slipped at the same time, I fly out of there. A launch is a test of skill, In a roll you can still have room for error (not downshifting to your powerband) but launching your car really tests you.

i never get a chance to find anyone to race them from a dig (its always highway stuff). so, from not having a choice, a roll.

Having wrong wheel drive, I would much rather run from a 30mph roll. Much less chance of wheel hop on a roll.

Why couldn't they make a Spyder in AWD!! Damnit!

I was going to say racing from a roll. But then i realized that i love the feeling of trying to nail the perfect launch in a fwd car. Racing from a stop in this car definately gets the blood flowing a little more for me.
