Hello everyone, new to this place looks great!
I have a 2000 Infiniti I30T with 140k on it
This all takes place during a very hot spell this month..
While I was driving one day I came to a stop light and right before I stopped the engine shut off. The lights were all on the dashboard as if it was just like the ignition was just before you start the car. The steering wheel got really heavy, the brakes hardened.
I tried to start the car again but it went dead a second after or just when it started up. The engine seems to start for a split second and it dyes. All the normal lights go on and there is no indication that it needs service and all the fluids are good etc.
Any idea what this may be? No service lights go on and the starter is fine and it turns over just for a second. It doesn't start up again but one time it did start up after I floored the gas and kept the starter going. Then it was fine for a week.
Then again all of a sudden same thing happens. Dies while I am driving or the engine shuts off but my lights are still on as if it was the notch right before you start your car.
Think its a sensor? Any ideas please let me know!

No maintenance history? Your car is a magic car if it runs 140k w/o any tuneup...
Swap ALL filters, plugs and clean idle circuit IACV. Change Belts.
If no hlp, then swap coilpacks/or ign cap &wires, mileage &heat kills em.
Test the sensors.
Read all following pages to figure out what could be the case; maxima contains 'about' the same building blocks:
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/748507/1
When u take the car into shop, ask beforehand for any old spares they will replace: tell em u will show those to me. Dont allow em to swap MAF with 800$ tag...

yes it gets it check ups when it should.
The dealership has replaced the MAF twice now. The issue is now that when its in ideal it just dies. When you get it going it will not accelerate, I mean when you floor it nothing happens.
No error codes or anything. They did say that the air/fuel was not right but they dont' know why. So I am now in a loaner and they have tried to fix this 3 times.
Any other ideas?

...Any other ideas?
"Any other": u did not specify what of those suggestions are already done.
2MAFs: Hopefully u have not paid twice? If so, demand it back.
Air/Fuel: After warmup, Exhaust gases are tested with O2 sensor in your car. Based on this and MAF -input, ECU injects gas.
If MAF has been changed, O2 is suspect. Still I do suspect the wiring/oxidation/grounding problems related to these and ECU computer: marginally shops can troubleshoot these problems and dealerships are none better - but in triplecharging for nothin. Read out the pages in the link: stealerships will never do the necessary connectors cleanup explained. IACV cleanup (highly necessary &easy!) they are not even allowed to do!
---------------------------------------------------------
- Tell this shop that you will not pay for weeks of troubleshootin & 2 MAF's. Take car away, find a better place. Seek forums and try to find smbdy or shop (with recommendations) in your area who is capable of fixing the car electronics; (there are howto -tips in the mentioned pages.)
- Connectors cleanup, Voltage level checks
- Replace O2, its relatively cheap.
- IACV cleanup
- Fuel filter
- swap all 6 coilpacks (or ign cap &wires if your engine has a distributor; see page http://www.cardomain.com/ride/748507/12)
- Test the sensors; demand results, explanation what they are and what they should be (no need for u to understand all).
Remember, youre the boss. (Boss does NOT need to know details.)

fuel pumps failing at that mileage is very common. symptoms sound right. no codes, car dies or starts then dies right away.

Air leak. If it does not accelerate when you push the throttle it usually means that it gets its air somewhere else. When you floor it does it bog down, or does it just idle?
If it bogs down, is there black smoke coming from the exhaust?
