'05 Focus "noise"

We need some advice, please?
My wife bought an '05 Focus, ZX4, SES, new in September of '04.
She now has about 22M miles on it.
It has developed a 'noise' at highway speeds that can best be described as a high-pitched roar...definitely not 'road noise'!
This noise seems to be getting worse.
We've taken it in to a Ford dealership, but they claim not to be able to hear it and, thus, will not offer to do any work to find what is causing the noise and to fix it!
Can anyone out there offer any suggestions as to what might be causing this noise, or, maybe you have experienced something similar?
Would appreciate greatly any help.
Thanks!
Bob Reed

Could you tell where the noise is coming from? Is it all the time, or only under certain conditions?

It could be a wheel bearing going ( or gone) bad. My 01 had one rear wheel bearing replaced under warranty and one of the front wheel bearings was starting to go bad.

If there is a low pitch vvvvvvvvvv at highway speed in either of the rear corners of the vehicle then the bearings need to be replaced. This happens alot if it has been in a flood or driven in high water.

If it is coming from the front center portion of the car, It is probably the center support bearing on the main drive axle. Mine has gone bad and what you are discribing sounds like mine. Ford decided to put a sealed center support bearing in with out any protection from the elements. Great idea. This is a dealer item that comes with the shaft and all for the low low price of $250. Hope this helps you.

I have 05 Focus ZX5 SES that has a front passenger door rattle that appears to be coming from the door handle area. The rattle occurs when driving on rough road between speeds of 50-70mph. It's very loud at times and can drown out the radio. The noise first started at 3,600 miles and now I have 29,000 miles . The car is only for 14 months old and was purchased w/only 76 miles on it.

Ford did replace the door handle but that only worked for 3 months and now the rattle is back in the same place. It's been an ongoing issue that Ford is not willing to fix, unless they can re-create it. And they aren't willing to take the time to fix something that they considered is cosmetic.

Anybody have any suggestions or ideas??!!!
Thanks:banghead:

I had same problem and root cause was broken belts in the 16" P6000 tires!!!
Check for a slight wave pattern or slightly raised tread sections.
Same car and miles!!

Could be a couple things, since I've been working for a Ford dealer, I have sen that allot of the "noise" is usually from the brake rotors. The pads on the focus is a ceramic pad, that loves to eat the heck out of the rotors, and also heating them up. look at your rotors are they a "blue" tint to them, or do they have a ring of rust around the outer or inner pad surface. If so remove the rotors ( 2 15mm bolts) and have the rotors turned ( becarful to stay within the turning limit) I see allot of these come in, and this usually fixes the problem. Oh, if you are having a problem with the dealership, try another, in another area.
