I have failed emissions in AZ 4 times over the 02 sensore (replaced), replaced hoses & valves, now the emissions tests says:

42 Fuel level unit - no change over miles
OR 42 Z1 voltage missing when autoshutdown circuit energized or code to them is P0171.

They also tell me that the check engine light has to go on and off in order to pass inspection. What a load.

The other problem is the gas guage doesnt work any longer. I think my whole electric line is just crap at this point.

Any ideas on ways of resetting the computer to pass inspection w/o going to Plymouth and paying $85.00 for them to do a diag on it.

What can I do to fix these problems?

Do the following to retrieve your codes:

1. Cycle the ignition key ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON within 5 seconds.
2. Count the number of times the "check engine" lamp on the instrument panel flashes on and off. The number of flashes represents the code. There is a slight pause between the flashes representing the first and second digits of the code. Longer pauses separate individual codes. For example, flash-flash-flash [pause] flash-flash represents the code 32.

To cycle the ignition key ON means to turn it only as far as it takes to get the radio to come on. It does not mean to turn the engine on.

Report back any codes you receive. It should end with a code 55, which means end of codes. Do this first to get your codes, then after fixing the problem, you can reset the computer by pulling the fuel pump 20A fuse from your PDC, located behind the battery, for about 5-10 minutes.

Another way to reset the computer is to remove the NEGATIVE battery terminal for about 1 minute. FYI

Worth a try. Fuel gages can be handy.

Check out this manual...

http://www.neon-owners.org/neon/tec...997/EPL_TAB.PDF

and EPL_14.PDF which has details on how to test and repair the fuel system.

Another way to reset the computer is to remove the NEGATIVE battery terminal for about 1 minute. FYIThis is true, but I have heard of people failing emissions because when the OBD part of the test comes up, it shows a code 12, which signifies the battery has been disconnected within the last 50 key on cycles. Since he is trying to pass emissions, I would go with the fuel pump fuse. Obviously the guys he's going to are hard asses.
