I was wondering what is the potential of these engines. I've finally found one that I like with 108k on the clock and for a decent price too. I know that in order to push them, the internals would have to be changed/taken apart and cleaned. I have searched and really only found bolt-on's. Just curious what some people have pushed these motors too. I will probably never do more than ieh, plugs, wires, reflash ecu...etc. thanks for your help

Potential...honestly...they don't have much. You are looking at a 13 year old sedan that came stock with less than 130hp. Please nobody take offense to this. Any car can be made fast with enough money, but potential wise, they are hardly admirable.

They are great cars that will last hundreds of thousands of miles with minimum maintainence. But they weren't made with performance in mind, and in reality there are much more cost-effective projects. Like I said, I'm not trying to insult anyone, I used to own one...I'm just trying to be honest.

oh no offense igovert500.. just was curious if in their day they were strong runners or if they are just really good, reliable cars. i purchased one yesterday with 108k and hope to put two to three times that many miles on it.

Put a 150hp shot nitrous on it and have the most fun 20 seconds of your life!

Take pictures of the aftermath for us :grinyes:

Well in their day they were averagly-powered sedans. But now you have sedans coming out with 240-300hp from Honda and Acura alone. Yes, they definantly will last 200-300 thousand miles with barely any work/maintainence. In my ignorant days, my Honda leaked so much oil that I would be driving it at 100mph with like only 2 quarts of oil in it...and the engine still ran strong at 160k when I stopped driving it. But as far as racing/power is concerned, I wouldn't say it has alot of potential.

Makes me sick. When my Impala SS came out in '94, it was a beast with 260 hp. Now the average V6 sedan would stomp its ass. And get better mileage.
