Motor Update...

Alright guys as some or most of you know I dropped in my New motor about 2 weeks ago... and took the time to break it in and make sure everything is working Properly.

well then came the 500km Oil change... pull the plug out... the magnet is COVERED in metal shavings... uh oh... not good. :uhoh:

Drain the oil and the filter and pop the valve cover off... check my cams ( OBX Stage 2 Cams ) they Wore down, the lobes Wore down on the cams like 10 thous, and they took like 2 thous off the rocker arms... Crap... not impressed... :eek7:

Pulled out the OBX cams and put in my USDM ITR that I had laying around (what don't you have a set ?) the rockers were not SOOO bad that I NEEDED to change them, but it would be a good idea to change them.

Just did my 1000km oil change and everything is Clean, no metal shavings in the oil, and the oil was still spotless. :iceslolan

the motor has quite a bit of power, lot more torque down below 2k, well alot more than I am used to.

everything works well together, it revs like nothing I have driven before, I love the power and how quiet this motor is... yes you heard right the new motor is not as noisy as my other b16... this baffled us... oh well. but once it get's to 5k + it SCREAMS.

the XTD Clutch Grabs Hard, and is a very nice clutch, stock pedal feel (uses a GSR Pressure plate) and grabs harder than Anna Nicole Smith in a Loaded 70 year old man.

just though I would Let you guys know my luck so far with everything.

Glad you switched out the cams. Also no need for a break-in. Should have just taken it straight to a dyno and got it tuned.

no need for a break in? LOL ok.

Sounds good Kun! Sucks about the cams though. Hopefully none of the shavings damanged any bearings.

Which XTD clutch did you get? I was looking into them but then decided to go with a name I could trust.

Nope, as long as your a/f ratios are good and you have a nice tune. Then your set.

Read this http://www.importbuilders.com/breakin.html

IMO they are one of the best import engine builders.

I e-mailed them... waiting for a reply... not holding out for too much though....

I got the stage 3 XTD clutch, 6 puck sprung, all my friends are using them and they are good stuff. they hold up to the power... my buddies are using it in their Turbo D (300+hp) and they hold those no prob.

yeah i wish I had a set of ITR's laying around.

Kun, did you use assembly lube on the cams lobes and make sure to pour lots of oil over them before starting the motor?

That and a proper vavle adjustment as soon as they go in, and another within a very short time is crutial.

Remember kids, Always lube it up good, you don't want wear

I'm real anal about valve lash... I adjust my valves all the time.

I suck at doing valve lash, where do you guys find the right gauges for that. The auto parts store only has the L shaped ones for american cars. I found the flat ones but it's kinda hard to get a good reading and get your hands in there.
