New Jeep owner here

hello all, i just bought my first jeep. its sweeeeet!

its in really good shape for being 10 yrs old. there are a few small things that i need for it. one is a plastic cip that goes on the cross member up by the windshield. the clip slides on to lock the cross member in place. any ideas on where to find one? i think i am going to have to replace the cross member in the near future. they are starting to crack where the bolt holds them together.

CanaMark I am thinking of buying a new wrangler and i was wondering why you feel they are pieces of junk, is it your personal opinion or are there a lot of mechinal problems that someone should know about? Please inform me so i don't make a bad decision on buying one, also anyone else has any input on possiable future problems with a 99 and higher please let me know, Thanks

I think that CanaMark was making a joke about the fact that every vehicle costs money to own, drive and keep on the road.

Jeeps are 4wd and that makes them a little more costly and maintainance sensitive than most people realize.

When you buy a used vehicle, sometimes it takes awhild to sort out the problems caused by the neglect of the previous owner(s) and the regular wear and tear of use.

If you can do the work yourself and can put up with those hastles, all's well.

Finding a shop/mechanic that is competent and worthy of trust is sometimes difficult.

Sofar as Jeep reliability goes, you can trust them to need repairs and maintenance like other makes, just read up here on the forum and ask questions about the best models and years.

Remember - every thing is a piece of junk when it don't work the way you think it should!!!

I love my Jeep and plan on buying a second in the fall(- just have't decided what model yet) even though today is the third day I will have spent this week doing what I call annual maintenance on it(well some of the time was beer time).

The fact of the matter is a Jeep will empty your pockets. Especially if you wheel. Once you get that suspension set up just right, you'll decide you can run bigger tires. bigger tires need lower gears, and you might as well ad lockers while your in there. Then you learn the tires are to big for your axle, new axles. once you have the bigger axles you might as well take it up 2" more or trim out the fenders and so on and so on
