Hey, I'm trying to remove the alternator but I can't get it out threw the bottom. On top the cruise control and A/C lines are blocking that way.
It's all unbolted but it's stuck on the floor and exhaust pipe and half shaft.
How did you guys removed it, did yo have to remove the halfshaft or disconnect the exhaust.
I can't figure it out???????????????
Thanks

I have a 2002 shop manual and it makes removal sound easy. Looking at my Protege 5 is is obvious it isn't easy. The book was written in Japan and maybe for cars without cruise or AC. I have not had to remove it but I would try to avoid removing a half shaft or the exhaust. It looks like you can remove the power plug from the cruise control and remove the control mounting bolts then move the cruise out of the way. There are power steering hoses that may be in the way remove brackets to give a little slack so they can be moved to the side. You cannot do much about the hard ac lines as they have little give. Hopefully these steps will give enough room to get it out.
As I say I've not tried it but I would remove stuff on top and try it there first. If you have never removd a half shaft they can be difficult to remove and it may not come out if you remove the shaft. Exhaust removal may be difficult and if you have any leaks or break some bolts, commom on exhaust system removal, you will have more problems.
Sorry I can't be more helpful. If the top method works please post that information so we can pass it on for the next owner that needs to replace an alternator.
