I just purchased an 88 Town Car in good shape, with a few minor problems. One being the driver side electric door window won't roll down. All the other windows work. A mechanic told me it was probably the window motor. I have located a used one & was wondering if it I would be able to do it myself. Any suggestions on how to get to it or iif any suggestions on anything else it might be. Thanks for any and all help.

I've heard these motors are steel riveted in, meaning you'd have to drill out the rivets, and replace them with bolts/locknuts.
If you hear the window motor running, yet the window dosn't move it's due to worn/broken cam insulators. There's three plastic parts that look similliar to pieces of round gluestick that surround a cam and act as a clutch between the motor and the worm drive. I've seen these parts on eBay, or any source would do fine. I've also seen repairs done by inserting 10mm nuts in the place of these parts however, that negates the clutch effect and could cut off your childs fingers if you happen to roll up the window with a finger in it's path.
As for DIY, sure you can with basic mechanical skills. Eveything becomes obvious after the door panels are removed.

Thanks for the info. This was what was wrong. I got the door apart & didn't know how to get to the motor, so I went to my local body repairman, who checked it out & it was not the motor, but one of these plastic pieces, which I went to parts store & got. Fixed me right up. Thanks again for your advice. I just purchased this 88 Town Car with 90,00 miles on it & it has been garaged all the time. Slick, but little things I am still working on.

Sounds like a great car. I've been driving Lincolns since the 70's and I miss the oldies.
Glad your window works now. :)

Some 88 Lincoln Town window motors are NOT revited in. But you do have to drill a hole at the marked (endented) location to access the screws to be able to remove the motor. If you can hear the moter when you push the window button up or down. Then you need to replace the plastic gears inside the motor. If you can not hear the motor, check for proper connection and or replace motor. Good luck.
